Jeep just dropped a bombshell with the all-new Cherokee—petrol, hybrid, and full EV all in one lineup!

The Jeep Cherokee is officially back in the global SUV market with a brand-new generation, after being discontinued in 2023. Revived for the 2026 model year, the new Cherokee gets major updates in design, platform, and powertrain choices. It will be available in petrol, hybrid, and all-electric versions, marking a major leap for the iconic mid-size SUV. The new-gen model will be positioned below the Grand Cherokee and will go on sale later this year in global markets.

Modern Design Inspired by Wagoneer S and Compass

The 2026 Jeep Cherokee features a bold design language inspired by the latest Jeep models like the Grand Cherokee, Wagoneer S, and the recently revealed third-gen Compass. While only the exterior has been officially revealed, the SUV sports a rugged and muscular stance with signature Jeep elements. The front gets the classic seven-slot vertical grille finished in black, new LED headlamps with integrated DRLs and turn indicators, a sculpted bonnet, and chunky bumper cladding with a new skid plate.

Side design highlights include large alloy wheels, blacked-out pillars, roof rails, and ‘Cherokee’ badging on the doors. While the rear design remains under wraps, it is expected to resemble the styling seen on the new global-spec Compass. The overall proportions and styling cues reflect a modern, aggressive identity while staying true to Jeep’s off-road DNA.

New Platform and Powertrain Options

Built on Stellantis’ advanced STLA Large platform, the 2026 Cherokee is expected to offer impressive versatility. It will be offered in internal combustion engine (ICE), hybrid, and electric variants across global markets. The electric version is likely to share components with the Wagoneer S, possibly including a dual-motor setup and a battery pack up to 100 kWh. This setup could deliver a power output close to 600 bhp in higher trims, though detuned versions are expected for the Cherokee.

The hybrid version may include either a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) or a conventional hybrid system. A powerful 3.0L twin-turbo six-cylinder petrol engine is also being considered for certain markets, offering strong performance to appeal to traditional SUV buyers.

Feature-Rich Interior and Advanced Tech

Though Jeep has yet to reveal the interior, the 2026 Cherokee is expected to feature a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital instrument cluster, a new three-spoke steering wheel, automatic climate control, and a rotary gear selector. These features aim to make the cabin premium and tech-friendly for a modern driving experience.

Not Expected for Indian Market

While Jeep continues to sell the Grand Cherokee in India, the newly launched Cherokee is unlikely to make it to the Indian market. The focus remains on global markets where mid-size off-road SUVs like the Cherokee have a stronger demand.

Final Thoughts

The return of the Jeep Cherokee in its 2026 avatar brings significant improvements in styling, technology, and sustainability with the introduction of hybrid and EV variants. Riding on the STLA platform, the new Cherokee is aimed at buyers looking for a capable, modern mid-size SUV with multiple powertrain options.
