Front the outside, the HyCross has an LED headlamps with a huge front face with chrome line around the grille and at the bottom, it has LED DRLs that act as a indicators as well. The bonnet of the HyCross has cuts on it to give it a meaner or sportier look. Moving to the side, it has cuts as well, chrome line that runs at the bottom of the window frame, wheel arches as it rides on 18-inch alloy wheels. Moving to the rear, it has LED taillamps with roof spoiler, shark fin antenna on the top, and the bumper are skid plate.
At the front of the Fortuner, there is the grille in three horizontal lines with chrome elements going at the side and covering the LED headlamps on both the sides, below is the bumper finished in faux silver skid plate both front and rear. Moving to the side, it has step-up side step to get into the car with chrome door handles, chrome line at the bottom of the window frames and alloy wheels of 18-inch. At the rear, it has sort-of wing like LED taillamps with chrome around the number plate and a roof spoiler with shark fin antenna on top.
From the inside, the Innova HyCross has a 10.1-inch infotainment system placed above the rectangular shaped AC vents and the AC vents at the sides are positioned horizontally. It has the dual-tone dashboard theme option and has leather seat upholstery. The HyCross has the three-spoke multi-function steering wheels with a digital instrument cluster and the push start/stop button is placed on the left side near the infotainment system. It has a huge panoramic sunroof, two charging ports at the front, two charging ports in the second row and third row. Around the gear lever, it has buttons for ventilated seats, electric parking brake with auto hold, EV mode (drives on electric power) and other things as well. The second row gets the captain seats with under thigh support as well, and between the two captain seats is the table with two cupholders. The third row is not great and it’s better for children or adults for short journeys. It also has 9-speaker JBL sound system.
The Fortuner has a 8-inch infotainment system placed below the AC vents and the AC vents at the sides are positioned horizontally. It does not have the dual-tone dashboard theme option but it has leather seat upholstery. The Fortuner has a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel with Analog instrument cluster and a TFT display between the Analog dials. It does not have a sunroof but has two charging ports at the front and rear. It has buttons for the ventilated seats and ahead of the gear lever is the wireless pad. The second row has captain seats and the rear seats is better for children or adults for short joruneys, and lastly it has the 6-speaker standard sound system.

When it comes to engine options, the Innova HyCross has one petrol engine and the Fortuner has one petrol and one diesel engine on offer. But first, the Innova HyCross, it has 2.0-litre TNGA in-Line Petrol engine that pumps out 172.99 bhp and 209 Nm of torque. The Innova HyCross is the only MPV to currently feature a petrol hybrid engine, and the Fortuner does not get Hybrid engines at all. The HyCross is powered by a 2.0-litre TNGA 5th Generation in-line Petrol-Hybrid engine that pumps out 183.72 bhp and 188 Nm of torque mated to a eCVT Gearbox with a fuel efficiency of 23.24 km/l and goes from 0 – 100 kmph in just 9.5 seconds which is incredible for an MPV that big.

When it comes to features, the Innova HyCross has much better features on offer than the Fortuner such as the digital instrument cluster while the Fortuner has Analog cluster, HyCross has panoramic sunroof, Fortuner has no sunroof, HyCross has 9-speaker JBL sound system, Fortuner has 6-speaker sound system, and HyCross has 10.1-inch infotainment system where as the Fortuner has 8-inch infotainment system. So, clearly, in many regards, the HyCross is a much better model than the Fortuner.

Even when it comes to safety, the Fortuner misses out on Automatic headlamps, Tyre-Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Autonomous Driver Assistance System (ADAS), and Electronic Stability Control (ESC). However, the HyCross misses out on Hill Descent Control. So, the HyCross is much safer than the Fortuner unfortunately.

The Innova HyCross starts at Rs. 18.55 lakh for the base ‘G’ variant and goes up to Rs. 29.72 lakh for the ZX (O) Hybrid variant which is top of the line variant in the line-up. The Fortuner however starts at Rs. 32.59 lakh for the ‘4×2’ petrol variant and goes up to Rs. 50.34 lakh for the ‘GR S 4×4 AT’ Diesel variant. As you can see, the price difference between the two models for the entry-level variant is Rs. 14.04 lakh and Rs. 20.62 lakh for the top variant.
As for the warranty, the Innova HyCross and the Fortuner has a warranty period of 3 years/1,00,000 km that can be extended up to 5 years/2,20,000 km.
In the end, the decision to buy which Toyota model depends totally on you, however, we would recommend you the Innova HyCross over the Fortuner as it’s affordable, the interiors look modern and spacious, feature and safety-loaded, as big as the Fortuner, and has good comfort on offer. The Fortuner has comfort and features but the interiors looks old and not updated and misses out on so many features and safety tech. Therefore, it is better to buy Innova HyCross over the Fortuner.
