An all-new Tata SUV is in works with launch scheduled to take place in 2027!

Tata Motors has started developing the next-generation Nexon, internally codenamed ‘Garud’. This new version is expected to debut in 2027 and will be built on an extensively reworked version of the X1 platform.

Next-Gen Tata Nexon: What to Expect?

The current Tata Nexon, introduced in 2017, has received two major facelifts—one in 2020 and another in 2023. By the time the new generation arrives in 2027, the first-gen model will have completed a 10-year lifecycle, which is quite long for a compact SUV.

The next-gen Nexon will continue using the X1 platform, which has its roots in the Indica era but has undergone major improvements over the years. Tata is expected to introduce significant structural upgrades, ensuring better safety, performance, and modern features. In terms of design, the SUV is likely to get a completely new exterior and interior layout, aligning with Tata’s latest design philosophy. However, specific details remain scarce at this stage.

Next-Gen Tata Nexon: Expected Powertrain Options

Tata Motors is expected to retain the petrol and CNG engine options, while the future of the 1.5-litre diesel variant remains uncertain. The diesel engine barely met the BS6.2 norms, and with BS7 regulations on the horizon, Tata may reconsider its feasibility, given the declining demand for diesel SUVs in this segment.

The Nexon EV is also expected to receive a comprehensive upgrade, though it is unclear whether Tata Motors will launch it alongside the ICE variants or at a later stage.

Next-Gen Tata Nexon: Rivals & Market Position

Upon launch, the next-gen Nexon will continue to compete in the compact SUV segment, taking on the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, and the upcoming Skoda Klyaq. With an updated platform, fresh design, and improved powertrains, Tata aims to maintain Nexon’s strong position in the market.
