It is no secret that Hyundai is working on a sub-compact SUV which takes design inspiration from Creta SUV.No doubt Hyundai Creta has ruled the segment for a couple of years and Hyundai wants to experience the same success in the compact SUV segment with it’s Styx SUV.
Since the SUV segment is growing rapidly and receiving good response from the market, Hyundai Styx is likely to get due attention.But in order to grab the top #3 spot, Hyundai needs to do something out of the box in order to rival the king of the segment Vitara Brezza, feature loaded XUV 300, premium Honda WR-V and powerful Ford Ecosport.All these SUVs have their own USP and where Hyundai can beat them is their price.
The price of the Styx SUV is expected to be aggressive.It will come with both the petrol as well as Diesel engines.These engines will be BS-VI ready.The first will be a 1.2-litre petrol VTVT engine generating 83 PS and 114 NM of torque.The second one will be a newly developed motor making 250 NM of torque.Automatic gearbox which will be derived from New Santro, at the time of launch will only be limited to petrol engine.This new engine will be seen in a number of cars including next gen Hyundai Creta, Verna and Kia SP2i concept.
Although this engine is not as powerful as XUV300 or Tata Nexon’s one, but is expected to generate high fuel efficiency which would be much closer to that of Vitara Brezza.As of now, there is no confirmation whether the 1.2-litre petrol engine on Styx would be replaced by the new 1.5 L petrol one.
Hyundai is also expected to bring electric version of Styx SUV in India in 2020.It will rival the electric sub compact SUVs including XUV 300 EV, MG ZS EV, Kia Niro EV.
As per the spy pics of the Carlino Styx SUV, it is expected to feature Hyundai’s signature cascading grille.The LED DRLs will be placed at the top with the projector headlamp and fog lamp being located just beneath the sleek daytime running lamps similar to that seen on the newly launched Tata Harrier.The side profile of the Styx will be quite similar to the outgoing Creta and is expected to get 16-inch alloys for the top-spec trim.
At the rear, will be the LED tail lamps exactly similar to that which the Creta 2019 has got recently.The rear section will be muscular and clean.Both the front and rear bumpers will be large in size with rear reflectors.Faux skid plates will be provided at the front and rear section.Adequate chrome will be used along with window line along and on the front grille as well.
Hyundai may offer all black interior on Styx SUV for sporty feel.The SUV will get loads of practical storage spaces and premium materials.The fit and finish of interior elements of Hyundai cars have always been amazing.The windows of the SUV will be slightly smaller in size as it the case with Hyundai Creta.
No doubt, all the Hyundai cars comes with tons of premium features and the Styx SUV won’t be any exception.It will be loaded with all the bells and whistles in order to take on some of the tough competitors in the segment.Safety features that will be offered right from the base variant includes ABS with EBD, Engine Immobilizer, Front Dual Airbags, Central Locking, Rear Parking Sensors, Speed Sensing Auto Door Locks, Impact Sensing Auto Door Unlock, Driver Seatbelt Reminder, ISOFIX child mounts, High Speed Alert System, Front Seatbelts with Pretensioner and Load Limiter.
Safety features of top trim includes Rear Defogger, Reverse Parking Camera, Front Fog Lamps, Hill Start Assist, 6 Airbags, Auto Dimming IRVM.The variant lineup similar to that of Creta, Verna and Xcent.It is expected to get E, S, SX and SX(O) variants.All these trims will be offered in petrol and diesel options.
In terms of interior features, it do gets Steering mounted audio, bluetooth, cruise and voice recognition controls.Infotainment system will be a 7-inch one which is likely to start offering from one model below the top-end trim.This unit supports Apple Carplay, android auto, mirror link, navigation.Leather wrapped seats, door pads, steering wheel will only be reserved for top-spec variant.Practical offering will be there in the form of front and rear adjustable armrest with storage spaces and cupholders.Front seats back pockets will be provided along with three adjustable rear headrest.One of the most common feature that is becoming a lot popular these days, Sunroof will be available in Styx also.
Colour options on Styx includes Typhoon Silver, Star Dust, Fiery Red, Marina Blue, Phantom Black, Passion Orange and Polar White.Like the Creta, Hyundai may also offer dual tone colour paint options on certain trims.Black roof will be provided with Red, Orange and white paint theme.
In terms of specifications, Hyundai Styx will be sub-4 metre compact SUV, measuring 3,995 mm in length with good width and height.The wheelbase will be at par with most of it’s rival which translates into a spacious interior.Bootspace of the SUV is expected to be around 350 litres.
New Hyundai Styx will be revealed at the New Year Auto Show on April 2019 and as per the latest reports, Hyundai Styx will be launched in India in the last week of April 2019.In India, it will be come with Styx moniker while for the American market, the sub-compact SUV may be called as Carlino only.
