Mahindra XUV 300 has been launched in India.It is a completely new SUV that falls in sub-4 metre segment.This is the first generation of this compact SUV and has been officially launched in India on February 14, 2019.
The production of the XUV 300 is been carried out at company’s Nashik plant.With XUV300, Mahindra expects to grab the 2nd spot in sub-compact SUV segment and are expecting a monthly sale of more than 5,000 units.
XUV300 is based on X 100 platform which also underpins the global-spec model, Ssangyong Tivoli.This platform has won a number of awards globally.Also Tivoli has scored 4 stars in Euro NCAP rating and Mahindra is expecting the same with XUV300.
For India, the platform has been altered to be keep it under 4 metres.It takes a lot of design inspiration from Ssangyong Tivoli and its elder brother XUV500, which is a highly successful product.It derives Cheetak design from XUV500.
XUV300 comes with the tagline ‘Set the roads on fire’ and yes actually it is ready to rule the roads with its class leading performance, equipments and strong body platform.Mahindra XUV300 is based on monocoque chasis and it is Mahindra’s 3rd compact SUV in India after Nuvosport and TUV300.
Recently a video was released by Mahindra, which revealed the aerodynamic capabilities of XUV300.The new SUV has undergone wind tunnel test at Pininfarina class leading wind tunnel facility in Turin, Italy.

Mahindra XUV300 gets a head turning stylish exterior design.The front of the SUV looks quite similar to it’s elder sibling, XUV500.At the front, it gets projector headlamps with LED DRLs which are very long.The upper grille is treated with chrome mesh and also has got a long chrome slat above.
Lower grille is also treated with four chrome lines and gets big air intakes.Both the front as well rear skid plates are in silver and they do enhances the looks of the SUV.Also it gets fog lamps whose housing connects the LED DRLs as well.
Sharp character lines are seen on the bonnet as well on the rear fender as well.At the side, you will also notice that A and C pillar are in piano black finish while the B-Pillar comes in black treatment.Side body cladding and wheel cladding not only protects the car but also gives it a stylish look.For the top model, it gets very stunning 17-inch diamond cut alloys.
For the rear section, Mahindra has provided LED tail lights right from the base model.A big rear bumper is provided which houses the reflectors, rear parking sensors and silver skid plates.Other than this, spoiler is seen with high mount stop lamp.

No doubt, the cabin of XUV300 is the most premium in the segment.With high quality materials, the interior of the sub-compact SUV is both plush as well as upmarket.Piano black accents can be seen on the power window system while the power window controls and steering controls are finished in aluminium finish which are of fine quality.
Dual tone dashboard works very well.Beige roof further makes the car more roomy while the seats are finished in high quality leather upholstery.For the lower trims, Mahindra is offering fabric upholstery for seats.Even leather is seen on the door pad and the front armrest as well.
The front seats of XUV 300 offers excellent lumber support, back support.These seats hold you very well and are highly cushioned as well.For the second row passengers, XUV300 gets all three adjustable headrests which is a great move.Since the back seats are slightly reclined, it provides you relaxed drive as well.
For the rear occupants, there is loads of headroom and more than adequate legroom.Yes, it is one of the spacious cabin in the segment.
Now lets move towards practicality.How this SUV performs in practicality?It gets a number of storage spaces includes front armrest, all four bottle holders.Space is also provided near the handbrake.Glovebox is also big enough to accommodate a number of items.Mahindra has also provided smart storage area above the glovebox as well.

Mahindra XUV300 has entered a very competitive segment.It takes on the some of the tough rivals including Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza who is currently the segment king, Ford Ecosport, Honda WR-V, Tata Nexon.This segment will further become crowded as Styx by Hyundai, and MG ZS and Kia Niro are ready for their debut in a few months from now also.

In terms of specifications, it measures 3,995 mm in length, has got a width of 1,821 mm and is 1,617 mm tall.It gets class leading wheelbase of 2,600 mm while the ground clearance of XUV 300 is 180 mm.Turning radius is 5.3 metres while fuel tank capacity is 42 Litres for both petrol and diesel models.
Tyre size is 205/65 R16 Steel Wheels for W4 and W6 variants while both the top variants rides on 215/55 R17 alloys but they are slightly bit different in terms of styling.
Currently, XUV300 doesn’t offer automatic transmission.But as per recent reports, Mahindra will be providing automatic in diesel variant of XUV 300 for a short duration of time.For petrol version, it is expected to come only in 2020.
Mahindra XUV300 is a new product by the carmakers.As it a completely new product and high in demand, so no discounts and offers are there for the XUV300.
Aspiring customers can book XUV300 at a token amount of Rs. 5,000.However, it may vary according to the state as well.Before the official release of the car, it has received more than 4,000 bookings and is on a waiting time of around 4 weeks.The deliveries of the car will begin 15th February onwards.

Like the petrol one, this diesel unit is highly powerful.This is the same motor seen on the Marazzo.It makes 115 BHP of power @ 3750 RPM and 300 NM @ 1500-2500 RPM.This unit gets 6-speed manual transmission and claimed mileage of 20 kmpl.Mild hybrid tech is provided for high fuel efficiency.
Mahindra XUV300 is a two wheel drive SUV.Both of these engines are BS-IV complaint and will be ready for BS-VI in 2020.Mahindra will also supply the 1.2-litre petrol engine to Ford as a part of their alliance.
