The BMW 2 Series M Performance Edition, launched in September last year, impresses with its killer looks, exuding elegance, sportiness, and a hint of aggression. Beyond its aesthetics, the sedan offers exhilarating performance, making it a delight for enthusiasts. In this article, we aim to provide a detailed review, highlighting why the 2 Series M Performance Edition stands out as a fun-to-drive car and a compelling option for prospective buyers.
The 2 Series features big kidney grilles like the other BMW Models and unlike the M Sport variants, the M Performance Edition gets X-Pattern with brown-ish surround for the grille. Plus they give the sedan a meaner and aggressive look. The LED headlamps with twin hexagonal design icon lights are high up and have angular shape while the hood is low with nice lines and short.
Moving to the side profile, the performance edition gets 17-inch Double Spoke Alloy Wheels with the brake callipers finished in silver colour. The side skirt of the sedan has M Performance lettering. The car has a sleek coupe shade with cool frameless doors. The rear of the 2 Series has LED tail-lights with the spoiler on the trunk that looks so good. The exhaust pipes aren’t fake, they are very real with decorative bits that adds to the sporty look of car.

Despite some limitations in rear seats, the 2 Series offers host of impressive features and comforts. The front seats are electrically adjustable and boast adjustable side support, enhancing comfort. The cabin exudes quality, with top-notch materials throughout. Additionally, the interior ambient lighting adds a touch of sophistication with customisable color options. The inclusion of the “Hey BMW” voice assistant and a 10.25-inch touchscreen further elevates the driving experience offering multiple control options.
Furthermore, the car comes equipped with range of desirable amenities such as Dual-Zone Climate Control, Hi-Fi 10 Speakers Sound System, Panoramic Sunroof, Wireless Phone Charging, and a rear-view camera for added convenience. Boot Space is 430 Litres which is decent enough but can be further increasing by folding the rear seats in 40:20:40 split.
The Sedan measures 4.5 Meters in Length which should’ve translated into good comfort and space for all passengers. But because of the coupe roofline, the space in the rear seats is a bit cramped; meaning it has just about enough headroom for people with 5’10 or 5’11 ft height. Knee room in the second row is less but keep this in mind this is still an entry-level sedan.
However, the real experience is the front seats as both the seats gets electrically adjustable function and can get comfortable anyway they want. The 2 Series has a 430 Litres Boot Space which is good enough to carry 4 to 5 Suitcases of Medium Sizes; but can be increased by folding the rear seats.

We took the 2 Series M Performance Edition for a drive and here’s what we think. The Performance Edition comes powered by the 2.0 L 4 Cylinder Twin-Turbo Petrol Engine and unlike the diesel engine; the petrol version feels punchy for its price. It sprints from 0 to 100 KMPH in less than 7.1 Seconds at a top speed of 240 KMPH. Additionally, the performance from the engine is exceptionally good. It has a strong thrust response but also has a strong pull.
The mid-range is so powerful; it’s like driving at 60 – 70 KMPH with ease when you’re actually doing at 120 – 130 KMPH. The gear shifts are quick in the sedan as this engine comes mated to the 7 Speed Dual-Clutch Transmission; and importantly it has Launch Control to further enhance the driving experience. The 2 Series is a low-profile sedan meaning it has low ground clearance and because of which we’ve to be careful while driving through big bumps or potholes.
Moving on, we brake tested the 2 Series at 70 KMPH Speed and the disc brakes works fantastically well. It came to a halt almost immediately, like it went from 70 – 0 KMPH in less than 35 Meters.
The 2 Series despite being a Front-Wheel-Drive (FWD) still manages to deliver an very enjoyable driving experience. While there’s some torque steer and wheel-spin, especially when you’re powering out of tight corners, it doesn’t take away from the fun factor but instead it exhibits sharp turn-in and maintains good grip through corners, allowing for an engaging driving experience.
The steering is nicely weighted and offers reassuring feedback although some may find it a bit heavy. Even at high speed, it offers good confidence to hold onto the steering while also carrying good weight. The ride quality is commendable effectively absorbing outside road noises. Moreover, the stiff suspension works really good offering great stability at high speeds and during some rough roads. Additionally, the car handles speed breakers quite nicely without risking the underside.
In the end, the main question arises, whether you should opt for the 2 Series or not? Well, the first thing is that this is the entry-level sedan from BMW, and compared to its rival, Mercedes-Benz A Class, it offers better fun-to-drive factor and features. Secondly, the 2 Series offers great stability at high speed while also keeping you comfortable in your seats. Moreover, the design and styling of the sedan is so appealing that one may fall in love with the car just for the looks. It’s attractive, mean, sporty and amazing.
