Tata Altroz Racer!

Tata Motors at the Auto Expo held in January 2023 had showcased the sportier iteration of Altroz called the Altroz Racer with introduction of few new features for the first time in a hatchback. But it’s a gonna take a while before Tata launches the Racer Edition in India. However, after taking a look at the model, here are the top 5 things that you should know which could change the game for this segment –

New Turbo powertrain!

Engine1.2-litre turbo petrol
Displacement1197cc
Power118 bhp
Torque170 Nm
Transmission Type6-speed MT, 7-speed DCT

Tata Altroz already has turbo powertrains on offer but for the Racer Edition, it’ll have a powerful turbo petrol engine. The hatchback will be powered by more powerful 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine that pumps out 118 bhp and 170 Nm of torque paired to 6-speed Manual and 7-speed DCT Gearbox. Tata has borrowed this engine from it’s dominating compact SUV, Nexon.

Visual upgrade

The Altroz already looks sportier but with changes from the outside like the extended roof spoiler, blacked out roof with white accent on the bonnet and checkered pattern on the roof. The ORVMs, extended rear spoiler, and the alloy wheels are all finish in gloss black to blend with the racer theme.

New Dashboard and Cluster

Say goodbye to the 7-inch infotainment system because the Racer will boast a new 10.25-inch floating infotainment system and a new 7-inch digital instrument cluster that will be much more informative and better looking than the current one. The new 10.25-inch infotainment system is a big upgrade as it’s easy to use, sleeker, faster, very responsive, and simple UI over the 7-inch infotainment system.

New Features

One of the biggest updates when we saw the Altroz Racer at the Auto Expo 2023 was introduction of new features. Recently, Tata had launched iCNG version of the Altroz which had voice-activated sunroof, wireless charging pad, and digital instrument cluster similar to the one in Tigor. Other features in the Racer Edition is first-in segment ventilated seats, and an air purifier.

Increased Safety

The Tata Altroz Racer is already a 5-star Global NCAP safety rated hatchback, but it used to come with two airbags only. However, Tata has added six airbags in the Racer for enhanced safety of it’s passengers. Other than that, reverse-parking camera with sensors, Tyre-Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), and many more.
