Yamaha has given India it’s first hybrid motorcycle at Rs. 1.44 Lakh!

Yamaha has launched the 2025 FZ-S Fi Hybrid in India at Rs. 1.44 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), making it the brand’s first hybrid motorcycle in the country. The bike was first showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2024 and comes with several updates, including a new 4.2-inch full-colour TFT instrument cluster, hybrid technology, and an OBD-2B compliant 149cc engine.

New Hybrid Tech & Performance Upgrades

The 149cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine produces 12 bhp and 13.3 Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed gearbox. While it remains the same as the standard FZ-S, the OBD-2B update ensures compliance with stricter emission norms. The key highlight is Yamaha’s Smart Motor Generator (SMG) and Stop & Start System (SSS), similar to the one seen in Yamaha and TVS scooters.

The SMG enables silent starts and battery-assisted acceleration, offering better fuel efficiency. The Stop & Start System automatically turns off the engine in traffic and restarts it with a simple clutch action, improving city commuting. The mild-hybrid assist provides a small power boost during acceleration for short durations.

New Features & Design Enhancements

A major upgrade in the 2025 Yamaha FZ-S Fi Hybrid is the 4.2-inch TFT instrument cluster, which supports smartphone integration via the Y-Connect app. It offers turn-by-turn navigation powered by Google Maps, displaying real-time directions, intersection details, and other key information. The TFT dash also features music control, geo-fencing, last-parked location, and more.

In terms of ergonomics, Yamaha has optimized the handlebar position to reduce fatigue on long rides. The switchgear has been updated for better accessibility with gloves, and the horn switch has been repositioned. Another practical addition is an airplane-style fuel cap, which stays attached while refueling.

Visually, the tank cover has been redesigned with sharper edges for a sportier look, while the front turn signals are now integrated into the air intake area, enhancing aerodynamics. The bike is available in two new colours: Racing Blue and Cyan Metallic Grey.

Pricing & Official Statement

At ₹1.44 lakh, the FZ-S Fi Hybrid costs around Rs. 10,000 more than the standard FZ-S Fi V4. However, it offers advanced features and improved efficiency. Yamaha has also slightly increased the weight, with the hybrid version being 1-2 kg heavier than the regular model.

Commenting on the launch, Itaru Otani, Chairman of Yamaha Motor India Group, stated:
“The FZ brand has played a crucial role in Yamaha’s journey in India, evolving with every generation to meet the changing expectations and practical requirements of our customers. By introducing hybrid technology in this segment, we are not only elevating performance but also reinforcing our commitment to bringing advanced, rider-focused innovations.”

The 2025 Yamaha FZ-S Fi Hybrid aims to offer a more refined, efficient, and tech-laden riding experience, making it a compelling option in the 150cc segment.
