With Maruti set to launch the new generation Swift tomorrow on May 9th, 2024, a main question arises is Toyota looking to rebadge the car to benefit their brand as well
Is Swift Coming to Toyota?
Toyota in India has rebadged many of Maruti Models such as Baleno as Glanza, Fronx as Taisor, Grand Vitara as Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and Ertiga as Rumion. These rebadging of models is not only benefitting Maruti Suzuki but also benefits Toyota. Now, Toyota is keen on to rebadge the Swift and sell it through the dealerships. However, Maruti Suzuki as rejected this offer saying it will ruin the brand’s iconic status with these affordable cars.

Maruti Suzuki accounts for about 20 – 25% of Toyota sales in India, and with the addition of the new rebadged Swift would help them even more. The Swift has been putting 15,000 units on average consistently. Maruti says the Swift is at the heart of their brand and that supplying the rebadged models may damage their reputation for these products.
The New Generation Swift is all set to launch tomorrow with new design and styling, engine, and features. The new hatch will come with the new 1.2 L Z12E Petrol Engine delivering 81.8 BHP and 112 NM Torque mated to 5 Speed Manual (MT), and Automatic (AT) Gearbox. The power output is down from 88.50 BHP with the old Swift and Torque by 1 NM.
The car gets new features such as 9-inch Infotainment System with Wireless Apple Carplay / Android Auto, Wireless Charging Pad, new 16-inch alloy wheels (different from Japan version), Fog Lamps, LED Headlamps and Tail-lamps, Rear AC vents, 6 Airbags as standard, and so much more.
Upon launch it’ll rival the Tata Tiago, and Hyundai Grand i10 Nios.
