It is time to do a comparison of Maruti Fronx against the Hyundai’s i20 to see is hatchback better than Compact SUV or Compact SUV better than the Hatchback!
Maruti Fronx vs Hyundai i20 – Exterior and Interior
The Fronx design at the front is inspired from their own mid-size SUV, Grand Vitara. It has LED DRLs with tri-rounded LED projector headlamps below the DRLs . The bumpers of the fronx front and rear are finished in faux silver skid plate. It has body classing all over the car with 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels and non-functional roof rails. Moving to the rear, it has LED taillamps with connecting LED light bar and a little spoiler at the top.
As you can see at the front of the Hyundai i20, it has blacked out front grille with rectangular block design and sleek LED headlamps with LED DRLs inside the headlamps and the bumpers finished in black as well. Moving to the side, it creases to give it a sportier look with 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and chrome line running through the window frame. At the rear, it has Z-shaped LED taillamps with a chrome line joining the taillamps and shark fin antenna at the top.
Maruti Fronx has a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel with analog instrument cluster and 9-inch infotainment system at the center. The Hyundai i20 has a four-spoke multi-function steering wheel with digital instrument cluster and 10.25-inch infotainment system, Both the cars have the dual-tone interior option as well. The Fronx gets the 6-speaker Arkamy’s sound system where as the i20 has 7-speaker Bose sound system.

As you can see at the Dimensions of both the cars, both the cars have the same length of 3995mm, same ground clearance of 190mm, and same fuel tank capacity of 37 litres. However, the Fronx has a width of 1765mm which is 10mm less than the i20 width of 1775mm. The Fronx has a height of 1550mm which is 45mm long than the 1505mm height of i20.
The Fronx has got a wheelbase of 2520mm which is 60mm shorter than the 2580mm wheelbase of i20. The boot space on the Fronx is 308 litres which is just 3 litres less than the i20 boot space of 311 litres. Lastly, the kerb weight of the Fronx is 1,060 kg which is 180 kg lighter than the i20 kerb weight of 1,240 kg.

The i20 has two petrol engines on offer, the 1.2-litre kappa petrol engine produces 81.80 bhp and 114.74 Nm of torque paired to a 5-speed Manual Transmission with a fuel efficiency of 21 km/l and an IVT Transmission with fuel efficiency of 19.65 km/l. The next is the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine which produces 118.41 bhp and 171.62 Nm of torque paired to a 7-speed DCT Transmission and no Manual Transmission on offer. It has a fuel efficiency of 20.28 km/l.

As you can see at the features table, the Fronx misses out on cooled glovebox, and Sunroof. It also misses out on 7-speaker Bose sound system and digital instrument cluster which the Hyundai i20 does have.

When it comes to safety, the Fronx misses out on Tyre-Pressure Monitoring System where as the i20 misses out on 360-degree camera and instead has reverse-parking camera.

The Fronx starts at Rs. 8.39 lakh for the base Sigma variant and goes all the way up to Rs. 15.12 lakh for the Alpha Turbo DT Automatic variant where as the Hyundai i20 starts at Rs. 8.38 lakh for the Magna variant and goes all the way up to Rs. 13.68 lakh for the Asta (O) Turbo DCT DT variant.
As for the warranty, Maruti offers 24 months/40,000 kms which ever comes first warranty which can be extended till 60 months/1,00,000 kms which ever comes first. The Hyundai i20 has a 36 months/1,00,000 kms which ever comes first warranty period which can be extended till 74 Months/ 1,00,000 kms which ever comes first.
Maruti Fronx vs Hyundai i20 – Verdict
In the end, the decision to buy which car depends totally on you, however, if you ask us we would recommend you the i20 as it is much more feature loaded than the Fronx except the i20 doesn’t have. However, the Fronx is not a bad choice either, you can buy that if you like. Which one would you choose?
