
Car sales in March 2024 reports a month-on-month decline for some brand, with Maruti Suzuki still as always maintaining its leading position in sales while Hyundai, and Tata are fighting to secure 2nd position.

In March, Maruti Suzuki as always is on top in domestic sales, except it reports decline in by growth of 4.71%, amounting to 1,52,718 units sold compared to 1,60,272 units sold in February 2024. Hyundai Motors however experiences growth in sales, reaching 53,001 units in March with a 5.58% increase from 50,201 units in February ’24. Hyundai celebrated its highest-ever annual sales in the FY 2023-24, totaling 7,77,876 units.
Tata Motors sold 50,105 units which isn’t good compared to Feb where it sold 51,270 units. Mahindra reported a monthly sales decline as sales were 40,631 units marking a 4.17% decline over February 2024. Toyota sold 25,119 vehicles in India and exported 2,061 units in March 2024. When comparing domestic sales to Feb, it’s positive growth by 7.81% and with recent launch of Taisor; Toyota will surely enjoy more when the demand for the SUV will increase like crazy.
Kia reported 21,400 unit sales which is up from the 20,200 unit sales it did in Feb and this was possible because of recent Sonet and Seltos SUV launch. Honda recorded 7,071 units domestically in March 2024, along with export numbers of 6,860 units. In comparison to February, the company sold 7,142 units domestically which is done by 0.99%. Conversely, MG Motor India experienced a slight growth in sales for March 2024, selling 4,648 units compared to 4,532 units in Feb 2024, marking an of 2.56%.
At the bottom we got, Citroen and Jeep with 1,006 and 425 unit sales respectively. Citroen recently unveiled Basalt Coupe SUV which will directly compete with Tata Curvv, but will also compete with other SUVs in the segment like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, etc. Jeep is readying the Meridian and Compass with ADAS in hopes it could help them achieve higher sales, possibly seating in the middle when it comes to ranking.
