MG recently launched the Comet EV and it is time to compare it with the Citroen eC3 to see can it defeat the eC3 in terms of features, range, and other things as well.

MG Comet EV vs Citroen eC3 – Exterior and Interior

MG Comet EV features a boxy design with full strip LED light bar running through the ORVMs and MG calls it Extended Horizon connecting lights. There are round-shaped rectangular LED headlamps with the same design for the taillamps as well. Below the light bar is the charging port which has illuminated MG logo on top of it. Moving to the side, the Comet EV rides on 12-inch alloy wheels, has vertically mounted windows which cannot be lowered down for passengers at the rear seats and also has crooked window for the front driver and passenger. Moving to the rear side, it has the same MG’s Extended Horizon Connecting Lights. 

From the front as you can see, the design starts from their logo finished in chrome which is basically two chrome lines that formed a logo and spreads into the split LED DRLs and halogen headlamps.  Below that is hexagonal shape with rounded square grille for air intake for the engine, and X-shaped faux skid plate and orange accents around the fog lamps. From the side, the design is simple but has 15-inch steel wheels instead of alloys. Moving to the rear, it’s has faux skid plate at the bottom with orange accents at the corners and halogen taillamps.

The Comet EV has white and grey interiors which will catch dust remains easily. It has dual 10.25-inch displays, one as infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay, one as instrument cluster with two-spoke multi-function steering at the front, and also has a rotary dial for drive modes. The front passenger seat gets one touch tumble and fold feature and rear seats are split in 50:50 ratio. It has 2-speaker in-built sound system.

The eC3 has a 10.23-inch infotainment system placed above the round-shaped AC vents with option for dual-tone dashboard as well. It has the three-spoke multi-function steering wheel and has round dials for the HVAC controls since it has no auto climate control. The rear seats are split in 60:40 ratio with rear AC vents, and no charging port. It has 4-speaker sound system.

When it comes to the dimensions, we know that Citroen eC3 is bigger than the Comet EV. The Comet EV measures 2974mm in length, 1505mm in width, and 1640mm in height. The eC3 on the other hand measures, 3981mm in length which is 1007mm longer, width of 1733mm that is wider by 228mm and has a height of 1586mm which is short by 54mm. The Comet EV has 2010mm wheelbase that is 530mm shorter than the eC3’s 2540mm wheelbase. The Comet EV has 165mm ground clearance which is 5mm less than the 170mm ground clearance of eC3. The turning radius of the Comet EV is 4.2 meters while on the eC3 is 4.98 meters. At last, the kerb weight of the Comet EV is 815 kg which is lighter by 487 kg than the 1,302 kg kerb weight of eC3.

As you can see, the Comet EV is powered by 17.3 kWh battery pack that puts out 40.41 bhp and 110 Nm of torque and offers a maximum claimed range of 230 km and takes 5 hours to charge from 10 – 80% and 7 hours to charge from 0 – 100%. The Comet EV has a top speed of 106 kmph. Meanwhile, the Citroen eC3 is powered by 29.2 kWh battery pack which puts out 56.22 bhp and 143 Nm of torque with claimed range of 320 km and takes 10 hours 30 minutes to charge from 10 – 100% and has a top speed of 107 kmph.

When it comes to features, the Citroen eC3 misses out on features such as voice control, and auto-dimming IRVM. It also has halogen headlamps instead of LED headlamps. The Comet EV has 2 speaker sound system instead of 4-speaker sound system and has 12-inch steel wheels instead of alloy wheels.

In safety, the eC3 misses out on Tyre-Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC). This gives the Comet EV an edge over the eC3.

In the end, the decision to buy which EV depends on you, however, we would recommend to buy the Citroen eC3 as it bigger in size, and has more comfort on offer and can take it for long rides, however, the Comet EV is focused for City rides and is not as practical as the Citroen eC3, so you should opt for eC3 over the Comet.
