MG Comet EV vs Tata Tiago – Exterior and Interior

MG Comet EV features a boxy design with full strip LED light bar running through the ORVMs and MG calls it Extended Horizon connecting lights. There are round-shaped rectangular LED headlamps with the same design for the taillamps as well. Below the light bar is the charging port which has illuminated MG logo on top of it. Moving to the side, the Comet EV rides on 12-inch alloy wheels, has vertically mounted windows which cannot be lowered down for passengers at the rear seats and also has crooked window for the front driver and passenger. Moving to the rear side, it has the same MG’s Extended Horizon Connecting Lights. 

Tata Tiago had received a facelift update in 2021 with a new face. At the front, the tiago has tri-arrow like design grille with projector headlamps which are halogen and not LEDs. Then there is a chrome line which goes from one headlamp to another. The front bumper has extended fins for that sharp look and the same extended fin for the rear bumper with the taillamps also Halogen and not LEDs. The rear and the side has nothing much going except for the simple design it carries.

The Comet EV has white and grey interiors which will catch dust remains easily. It has dual 10.25-inch displays, one as infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay, one as instrument cluster with two-spoke multi-function steering at the front, and also has a rotary dial for drive modes. The front passenger seat gets one touch tumble and fold feature and rear seats are split in 50:50 ratio. It has 2-speaker in-built sound system.

The Tiago has a 7-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, placed below the AC vents and AC vents at the sides are positioned horizontally. It has the three-spoke multi-function steering wheel with digital instrument cluster, and two USB ports on the front. The rear seats has no AC vents on offer and the seats are split in 60:40 ratio, and the dashboard has the dual-tone theme option. The Tiago has 8-speaker sound system as well.

The Comet EV has a wheelbase of 2010mm which is 390mm shorter than the 2400mm wheelbase of Tata Tiago. The Comet EV has a turning radius of 4.2 meters while the Tiago has a 5.1 meters turning radius. After all this, the Comet EV has a kerb weight of 815 kg which is 576 kg lighter than the Tiago’s 1,391 kg kerb weight.

The Tata Tiago has two powertrain options – Petrol and CNG, and for CNG it uses the same 1.2-litre Revoltron petrol engine. In Petrol, it produces 84.82 bhp and 113 Nm of torque paired to a 5-speed Manual Gearbox and 5-speed Automatic Gearbox with 19.01 km/l fuel efficiency in Manual and 19.00 km/l fuel efficiency in Automatic and has a top speed of 165 kmph. The same engine in CNG produces 72 bhp and 95 Nm of torque with fuel efficiency of 26.49 km/kg.

When it comes to features, the Comet EV misses out on cooled glovebox and height adjustable driver seat. However, the Tiago does not LED headlamps and taillamps but instead has halogen headlamps and taillamps. The Tiago also misses out on Auto-Dimming IRVM. The Comet EV has 2-speaker in-built sound system where as the Tiago has 8-speaker Harman sound system.

In safety, the Tiago misses out on Tyre-Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC). Rest everything remains the same. This does give the Comet EV an edge over the Tiago in features and safety features on offer.

As for the warranty, Tata offers 3 years/1,00,000 km warranty for the Tiago that can be extended up to 5 years/1,50,000. MG offers 5 years/unlimited km warranty period for the Comet EV.

In the end, the decision to buy which car depends totally on you, however, we would recommend you the Tiago over the Comet EV as the EV is focused for City rides and therefore, you have no boot space on offer, and if you’re planning for long trips in Comet EV you certainly won’t be comfortable for long rides.
