The Brezza Rival has been spied testing on the roads carrying same design despite it launched almost 2 years ago!
The Tata Nexon has been spotted testing under heavy camouflage, raising questions about what the carmaker could be developing. Despite the camouflage, the design details confirm it is the facelifted version launched in October 2023, as it retains the same alloy wheels and overall styling. So the main question, what could Tata be testing that requires full wrap?
ADAS Testing for Nexon?
With competitors like Kia Syros and Mahindra XUV 3XO offering Level 2 ADAS, and Level 1 ADAS already available in models like the Kia Sonet and Hyundai Venue, it is possible that Tata is preparing to equip the Nexon with ADAS to increase its sales. If true, the Nexon will have the ADAS functions as the Curvv, which includes features such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition, etc. This would significantly strengthen the Nexon’s position in the subcompact SUV segment.
Possible Feature Upgrades
Alongside ADAS, Tata may also introduce premium features to keep the Nexon competitive. This includes a Powered Driver Seat and Electronic Parking Brake – both of which have become popular additions in the segment. These enhancements would align Nexon’s feature list with newer rivals and improve its appeal among tech-savvy buyers.
New Engine Options Updates?
Tata Nexon |
Engine | Drivetrain | Power | Torque | Transmission Options | Fuel Efficiency |
Turbo Petrol |
1.2 L 3 Cylinder Turbo Petrol | FWD | 118 BHP | 170 NM | 5 Speed MT, 6 Speed MT / AMT, 7 Speed DCT | 17.01 – 17.18 – 17.44 KMPL |
Diesel | 1.5 L 4 Cylinder Diesel | FWD | 113 BHP | 260 NM | 6 Speed MT / AMT |
23.23 – 24.08 KMPL |
CNG | 1.2 L 3 Cylinder Turbo CNG | FWD | 98.5 BHP | 170 NM | 6 Speed MT |

Another possibility is the transmission. Tata could be testing its DCA (Dual-Clutch Automatic) gearbox with the diesel engine, which would offer smoother and more engaging performance than the current AMT; or it could be the testing of a 5-speed AMT for the Nexon CNG variant. Currently, the CNG-AMT combo is offered only with the Tiago and Tigor, and introducing it in the Nexon could help Tata unlock a whole new customers who wants AMT option with CNG with high fuel efficiency.
Final Thoughts
While the spied Nexon appears visually unchanged, it’s what’s under the skin that might bring significant updates. Whether it’s ADAS tech, new feature additions, or expanded transmission options, Tata seems to be actively working on keeping its bestseller future-ready. With the compact SUV space heating up, these upgrades could help the Nexon maintain its stronghold in the market.
