On Independence Day, Mahindra is all set to reveal a new concept pick-up truck during the event in South Africa, and this is basically a bad news for others!
Mahindra is all set to unveil a new pick-up concept on the day we celebrate Independence Day, August 15th, and this unveil event will take place in South Africa where Mahindra will have more to showcase, possibly the brand’s future.
Mahindra’s New Car – What you need to know
The new pick-up truck concept is codenamed Z121 and it’ll be build on the Scorpio-N platform but will feature a much longer wheelbase than the off-road SUV. The Mahindra Classic, for reference, measures 2680mm in wheelbase, where as the pick-up truck called Getaway in India, and Pik-up in South African & Australian Market features extended wheelbase all the way to 3040mm, which is 360mm longer than the Scorpio Classic.
The production version of the new pick-up concept is set to launch sometime in early 2025 and its expected to come in single or double cab-body with tray back bed similar to the Getaway. Moreover, its highly likely that Mahindra could source the powertrain from the Scorpio-N SUV – 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine produces 200 bhp and 380 Nm of torque mated to 6-speed Manual, and Automatic Gearbox with 2WD Drive Type. The 2.2-litre turbo diesel produces 172.45 bhp and 400 Nm of torque paired to 6-speed Manual and Automatic Gearbox with 2WD and 4WD Drive Type.
For now, its not clear whether this concept truck will replace the current Pik-up Moniker or launch it as new model and sell alongside. Once it launches in 2025, the production version of this new pick-up truck could be way more affordable than the ISUZU V-Cross, and Toyota Hilux. Although, Pik-up Trucks aren’t gaining any massive popularity in India, and Toyota is just offering massive discounts on its product to just sell these vehicles somehow. But, Mahindra also functions in Australia and South Africa where the new upcoming model could gain massive fame and become instant hit.
