New Nexon rivalling SUV from Skoda: What you need to know!
The Kushaq SUV from Skoda measures 4.22 Meters in length while all its rivals (except Taigun) measures more than 4.3 Meters. As you can see, this puts the Kushaq in sort of a disadvantage when it comes to the interior space. When considering its transformation into a compact SUV, the Kushaq holds an inherent advantage. A mere reduction of 23cm would allow it to fit under the sub-4-meter length limit.

Much of this reduction is expected to come from compacting the front end, facilitated by its already SUV-like appearance tailored for the Indian market. Skoda will likely adjust the wheelbase, bringing it down from 2651 MM to somewhere between 2500 – 2550 MM wheelbase to suit the sub 4-meter SUV. Moreover to cut costs, Skoda plans to redesign the door skins, eliminating stylistic creases and folds present in the Kushaq and Slavia. Expect every body panel on the compact SUV, from bumpers to fenders, to undergo significant alterations.
Skoda’s compact SUV will inherit familiar mechanical components, including the 1.0 TSI engine, renowned for its performance and efficiency. With a lighter body, expect even better fuel economy. The 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox will also carry over to the new project, providing smooth and responsive driving experiences. While the torque converter may not be the sportiest option, it complements the turbocharged engine well.
To remain competitive, Skoda’s sub-four-meter SUV must blend visual appeal with competitive pricing. Teasers reveal evolved styling with slim LED DRLs and a distinct design language, promising a fresh and modern look that aligns with Skoda’s design ethos.
Klaus Zellmar, CEO of Škoda Auto, underscores India’s pivotal role in the company’s global growth strategy, citing its market strength and significance as a development and manufacturing hub for expansion into new markets like ASEAN and the Middle East. With a focus on expanding their model range tailored for Indian and international customers, Zellmar highlights plans for an all-new compact SUV in 2025, aiming to contribute to achieving a Volkswagen family market share of around 5 percent in India by 2030.
Piyush Arora, Managing Director and CEO of Škoda Auto Volkswagen India, highlighted the company’s successful ventures with the Kushaq and Slavia models and announced plans for a new compact SUV targeting India’s largest automotive segment. Emphasizing their commitment to local manufacturing, Arora outlined efforts to integrate highly localized parts and develop a robust supplier base, aiming to offer globally standardized components at competitive prices. He expressed the company’s dedication to expanding its presence and enhancing its diverse car portfolio to align with India’s evolving mobility landscape.
