Maruti is developing a new entry-level MPV, internally codenamed “YDB,” to compete with its primary rival, the Renault Triber. Expected to be priced from Rs. 6 Lakhs, this affordable MPV is based on the Suzuki Spacia, featuring a longer dimension likely under 4 meters. Unlike the Spacia, which includes sliding doors in the second row, Maruti plans to omit this feature initially to keep costs low.

However, there is potential for Maruti to incorporate the cost-effective sliding door mechanism from the Eeco in future iterations of the YDB MPV. The YDB MPV will have a tall stance, offering more headroom and interior space. Its interior design is anticipated to resemble current Maruti models such as the Fronx, Baleno, Brezza, and the newly launched Swift.
Powering the YDB MPV will likely be a 1.2 L 3-cylinder Z12E petrol engine, delivering 80.46 BHP and 111.7 NM of torque, paired with a 5-speed manual (MT) and an automatic (AMT) gearbox. It is expected to offer fuel efficiency of around 23-25 KMPL. A CNG variant is also expected to be available.
Key features of the YDB MPV might include a 9-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charging pad, second-row AC, LED headlamps, tail-lamps, and DRLs, a 360-degree surround view camera, and standard six airbags, among other features.
The YDB MPV is still in the early stages of development. Before its release, Maruti will be launching a 7-seater SUV based on the Grand Vitara and its first-ever electric SUV, the eVX. According to Maruti’s internal plans, the YDB MPV is expected to launch sometime in 2026 with an anticipated starting price of Rs. 6 Lakhs, positioning it below the Ertiga and XL6 MPVs in the lineup.
