Hyundai Exter First look – Everything you should know!

Hyundai Motors India unveiled a design render of the Exter which features H-shaped LED DRLs with round-shaped projector headlamps and the parametric pattern front face. The bumpers on the Exter as seen in the render, will be finished in faux skid silver plate. If you didn’t know, the upcoming Exter is build on the Hyundai’s Grand i10 Nios platform, K1, which was first introduced in 2008 with the second-gen Hyundai Santro.

The Exter is developed under the brand’s identity of “Sensuous Sportiness.” The design inspiration for the Exter is taken most likely from the Hyundai’s Casper (sold in Korea) and from urban and outdoor lifestyle as Hyundai is targeting this SUV for the young buyers. The Chief Operating Officer of Hyundai Motors India, Tarun Garg, says, “Exuding elements of Parametric Dynamism, Hyundai Exter is set to define new aspirations for the Gen Z customers that are looking for modern and youthful SUV.”

Hyundai Exter will have engine options from the Grand i10 Nios. It’ll have three engine options – The 1.2-litre petrol engine produces 81.8 bhp and 113.8 Nm of torque paired to a 5-speed Manual Transmission, and 5-speed Automatic Transmission with expected fuel efficiency of 20.1 km/l. The Exter will also have one additional petrol engine and not a diesel engine because of India’s emission norms.

It will get the 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine which will produce 120 bhp and 172 Nm of torque mated to a 5-speed Manual Transmission and 7-speed DCT Transmission. The Exter could get a CNG option after it has launch, which will be the 1.2-litre Bi-Fuel which produces 67.72 bhp and 95 Nm of torque with 5-speed Manual Transmission only and no Automatic Transmission.

Hyundai Exter will have features such as two-spoke multi-function steering wheel, 8-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control, height adjustable driver seat, adjustable headlamps, projector headlamps, cruise controls, Bluelink connected car tech, LED DRLs, sunroof, digital instrument cluster, and 15-inch alloy wheels. In safety, it has ABS with EBD, ESC, reverse parking camera, automatic headlamps, Tyre-Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), and six airbags.

Hyundai Exter will rival the Tata Punch, Nissan Magnite, and Renault Kiger as it’s expecting to launch in the coming months and will be positioned above the Grand i10 Nios and below the Venue.
