Kia Clavis: Micro-SUV or a Sedan?
Kia has been around for 4 years now, and has emerged as the 5th largest carmaker in India with leading vehicles Seltos, Sonet, and Carens being the important sales contributors. Kia is said to be developing a new sub-4-meter SUV, internally dubbed AY. The company has recently filed a trademark for a new nameplate in India, Clavis. The Clavis is said to be based on the Hyundai’s Exter Micro-SUV.
The upcoming Kia Clavis SUV aims to differentiate itself from the Seltos, and the Sonet. Like the Hyundai Exter, the Clavis could feature boxy, rugged, and high stance profile, and different design that its other SUV could help Kia to maximize interior space, addressing concerns raised by users regarding the Sonet’s rear legroom limitations.
In terms of Engine Options, Kia could offer the 1.2 L naturally-aspirated Petrol engine which produces 81.80 BHP and 115 NM of torque paired to 5 Speed Manual (MT) and 5 Speed Automatic (AMT) Gearbox. Moreover, it’s also possible, the micro-SUV could get 1.0 L Turbo Petrol engine which would produce 118.35 BHP and 172 NM of torque mated to 6 Speed IMT and 7 Speed DCT Gearbox. Lastly, the Clavis would spawn an electric powertrain as well which could give range somewhere between 300 – 400 KMs.
As for the pricing, we can expect the ICE version of Clavis to be somewhere from Rs. 7 to 11 Lakh, and as for the electric version, it’ll be on the pricier than the ICE version, and we expect it to be from Rs. 12 – Rs. 15 Lakhs.
Meanwhile, Kia is focused on launching the next-gen Carnival in India sometime in 2024, and then other flagship SUV, the electric SUV, EV9 is also expected to launch in India in the late 2024 to early 2025.
