Kia Seltos Facelift against the Tata Harrier!

Kia has finally launched the facelift of Seltos in India on July 4th and has introduced features that some it’s rivals doesn’t get. Therefore, it only makes sense to compare the Seltos Facelift against, Tata Harrier that happens to have similar features and performance, and find that if the Seltos facelift is any better than the current Tata Harrier.

Kia Seltos Facelift vs Tata Harrier – Design

Kia has updated the Seltos with a bigger grille with extended LED DRLs on it, cuts and creases on the bonnet for a sporty and aggressive look, four LED cubes positioned vertically acting as Fog lamps, the bumpers are of faux silver skid plate, and just above the bumpers it has rectangle panel for ADAS. Moving to the side, the body has few cuts which looks the same as pre-facelift Seltos, thin wheel cladding for the 18-inch alloy wheels, roof rails on the top, chrome line on the bottom of the window lamp that extends till the D-pillar. At the rear, it has L-shaped Caren inspired LED taillamps connected by LED light bar with KIA logo at the center and small spoiler on the roof.

As for the Harrier, it has LED DRLs and round-blocks on the grille with chrome line around the grille and LED DRLs that gives a spreaded-V look. Below that is the LED headlamps and fog lamps below it with chrome line around the outer side of the fog lamps, and at the bottom center of the grille, it has radar for ADAS, which you’re not able to see in the above image, but it is present in the updated variant. Moving to the side, it has simple look with wheel arches and rides on the 18-inch alloy wheels. It has chrome lining at the top and bottom window frame, and door handles finished in chrome. As for the rear it has sleek LED tail lamps with small spoiler on the roof.

From the inside, the Seltos Facelift has one big display unit with two 10.25-inch displays – one for digital instrument cluster, and for infotainment system, and has new layout for the automatic climate control. It has a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel, the pedals is finished in black, and now it has panoramic sunroof. Around the gear lever, it has buttons for ventilated seats, wireless charging pad, rotary dial for driving modes, two USB Charging ports at front and rear, electric parking brake with auto hold function, and sun-blinds for all the windows. Moving to the rear, the seats are split in 60:40 ratio that can be reclined as well, ambient lighting and it has 8-speaker Bose Premium sound system.

As for the Harrier, it has the 10.25-inch infotainment system above the AC vents and at the sides it has horizontally positioned AC vent. The Harrier has the dual-tone dashboard option. It has multi-function three-spoke steering wheel with digital instrument cluster, and a huge panoramic sunroof. It has two USB ports at the front, two in second row, and two in the third row. It has drive modes selector in front of gear lever, electric parking brake with auto hold, and buttons for the ventilated seats at the side of the seat. The third row has a 40:60 split seat and second row has 60:40 split seats.

When it comes to Dimensions, the Seltos facelift measures 4315mm in length, 1800mm in width, and 1645mm in height. The Harrier has a length of 4598mm which is 281mm longer, width of 1894mm that is 94mm longer, and height of 1786mm which is taller by 141mm. The Seltos Facelift has a wheelbase of 2630mm and ground clearance of 190mm where as the Harrier has the wheelbase of 2741mm which is 111mm longer, and ground clearance of 205mm that is 15mm higher. The Seltos Facelift has a boot space of 433 litres which is 8 litres bigger than the Harrier’s 425 litres boot space. Both the cars has the same fuel tank of 50 litres.

In Engine Options, the Seltos Facelift gets normal diesel powertrain and the Harrier comes with only turbo diesel powertrain. The Seltos facelift has the 1.5-litre diesel engine that produces 113.48 bhp and 250 Nm of torque paired to a 6-speed iMT Gearbox with 21 kmpl fuel efficiency and 6-speed Automatic Gearbox with fuel efficiency of 18 kmpl. The Harrier on the other hand is powered by the 2.0-litre Kryotec turbocharged diesel engine that produces 167.67 bhp and 350 Nm of torque paired to a 6-speed Manual and 6-speed Automatic Gearbox with 14.6 kmpl fuel efficiency.

Kia Seltos Facelift other than the diesel powertrain, gets normal petrol powertrain which is something not available with the Harrier. Anyway, the Seltos Facelift is powered by the 1.5-litre petrol engine produces 113 bhp and 144 Nm of torque paired to 6-speed Manual Gearbox and IVT Gearbox (or CVT) with fuel efficiency of 16.8 kmpl.

Kia on Seltos Facelift launch also revealed that the SUV will be getting a new 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine producing 157 bhp and 253 Nm of torque mated to 6-speed iMT and 7-speed DCT Gearbox. Kia launching this engine in order to comply with the RDE and E20 norms. This is another powertrain which Tata doesn’t offer with Harrier.

Both the SUVs has the same features yet the Seltos facelift is better than Harrier like big instrument cluster of 10.25-inch, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, ambient lighting, more powered seats adjustable option, dual-zone climate control, and big alloy wheels.

In Safety, both has the same safety features yet the Harrier misses out on Front Parking Sensors, and Level 2 ADAS features like Adaptive Cruise Control, etc.

The Tata Harrier starts at Rs.15 lakh for the base variant ‘XE’, and goes up to Rs. 24.07 lakh for the top variant, ‘XZA+ (O) Red Dark Edition Automatic.’  The Facelift Seltos is expected to start at Rs. 11 lakh for the entry-level variant.

As for the warranty, Kia is offering 3 years/1,00,000 km warranty period for the Seltos facelift and can be extended up to 5 years/1,00,000 km and Tata offers 3 years/1,00,000 km warranty period for the Harrier that can be extended up to 5 years/unlimited kms.

Kia Seltos Facelift vs Tata Harrier – Verdict

In the end, the decision to buy which SUV depends totally on you, however, if you ask us, we recommend the Kia Seltos Facelift as it offers better features, good performance and mileage, and feels premium than the Harrier. However, the Harrier is bigger in dimensions, powerful engine and performance, and provides similar features as the Seltos facelift. So, if you like the Kia Seltos Facelift you can go ahead and book the SUV when the bookings open, otherwise, you can go ahead and buy the Harrier. Which one would you choose?
