Mercedes-Benz debuted the AMG SL55 in India with a triple-layer fabric roof, quad exhuasts, V8 Engine, 8 paint shades for the car, and 3 colors for the roof.

Mercedes-Benz has launched the seventh-generation AMG SL55 in India that replaces the S-Class Cabriolet, and the AMG GT Roadster, and the retractable roof is made up of fabric.

Mercedes-Benz has launched the AMG SL55 at Rs. 2.35 crore in India and it features 2+2 seating layout with the retractable roof made up of fabric. The SL Roadster returns to India after 12 years hiatus as the last production model in India was the AMG G55 SUV. The AMG SL55 is a seventh-generation roadster replacing the S-Class Cabriolet, AMG GT Roadster, and the sixth-gen SL in the global line-up.

The Mercedes-AMG SL55 has only one powertrain and that is the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 Petrol engine producing 469.48 bhp and 700 Nm of torque mated to 9-speed Torque Converter Automatic Gearbox, and sends powers to all four wheels via the Mercedes 4MATIC+ system. Mercedes claims the AMG SL55 can do 0 – 100 kmph in seconds at a top speed of 295 kmph, and the rear axle steering is standard.

The AMG SL55 measures 4705mm in length, 1915mm wide, and height of 1359mm with a wheelbase of 2700mm. It has a huge front grille with angular LED headlights, long bonnet with two power domes, quad exhausts, and rides on 20-inch alloy wheels as standard and buyers can buy a bigger 21-inch alloy wheels with different design if the 20-inch wheels doesn’t appeal to them. The SL Roadster has a triple-layer fabric roof that weighs 21 kg less than the metal roof, and can be operated by a switch on the center console.

The deploying speed of the roof is 60 kmph and it takes around 16 seconds to either open or close. Mercedes-Benz is offering three color options for the Fabric Roof – Black, Dark Red, and Grey, and the AMG SL55 has eight paint shades – Obsidian Black, Selenite Grey, Hyper Blue, Alpine Grey, Opalite White Bright, Spectral Blue Magno, Patagonia Red Bright, and Monza Grey Magno.

The AMG SL55 features a 11.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system that is portrait oriented and the angle of the system can be adjusted between 12 degrees to 32 degrees so you don’t get the glare on the sunscreen while driving with roof retracted. The infotainment system runs of the latest MBUX OS with many display options including the bespoke AMG and soft-top display mode. The AMG SL55 has a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with twin-spoke steering wheel, and a optional heads-up display above the instrument cluster.

It gets five upholstery options – Black Nappa Leather and microfibre with red stitching, Black Nappa Leather, Sienna Brown Nappa Leather, Truffle Brown Nappa Leather, and Black Nappa Leather and microfibre with yellow-stitching. There is also two interior trims options – Aluminum and Carbon Fibre, Two-Seat options – AMG Sports Seats, and AMG Performance Seats. It has other features like the Burmester sound system, Airscarf function that channels warm air towards the head and neck of front passengers that serves as a practical solution for buffeting when driving with roof down. Lastly, it has an optional AMG Track Pace Programme which records 80 sets of data at frequency of 10 times per second while driving on the track.

The Mercedes-AMG SL55 in India rivals the Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet, and Lexus LC 500h.
