In September 2024, Tata Motors reported a total sales figure of 41,065 units, representing an 8.36% drop compared to the 44,810 units sold in September 2023. Despite the overall decline, some models showed impressive YoY growth. Leading the charge was the Punch, which saw a 5.18% YoY increase with 13,711 units sold in September 2024, compared to 13,036 units in the same period last year. The combined sales of both ICE and electric variants contributed to this growth.
The Nexon faced a 25.16% YoY decline, selling 11,470 units in September 2024 versus 15,325 units in September 2023. Sales of the Nexon also combined both electric and ICE variants. The new Curvv debuted in August 2024, so there is no YoY comparison available. In September, it achieved a notable 4,763 units sold, contributing to Tata’s portfolio in the compact SUV segment. Combined ICE and electric sales for the Curvv are included.
Both the Safari and Harrier posted significant YoY gains. The Safari recorded a remarkable 218.6% increase, with 1,644 units sold compared to just 516 units in September 2023. The Harrier experienced a 72.78% jump, with 1,600 units sold compared to 926 units in the same period last year. Conversely, the Tiago saw a steep 37.77% YoY decline, with sales falling from 6,789 units in September 2023 to 4,225 units in September 2024. The Altroz also struggled, recording a massive 58.74% drop in sales from 6,684 units in September 2023 to 2,758 units in September 2024.
Month-on-month, Tata Motors saw a decline in sales as well, with total units sold in September 2024 reaching 41,065, down by 6.97% from 44,142 units in August 2024. The Punch led the brand’s sales despite a 12.35% MoM drop. The model sold 13,711 units in September 2024, down by 1,932 units from 15,643 units in August. The combined ICE and electric sales for Punch contributed to this figure.
The Nexon saw a 6.66% MoM decline, with 11,470 units sold in September compared to 12,289 units in August 2024. Nexon sales also include both ICE and electric variants, with the upcoming CNG variant expected to boost sales. The Curvv, a new addition, demonstrated strong MoM growth. Its sales rose by 37.86%, increasing from 3,455 units in August to 4,763 units in September 2024. This growth highlights the positive market reception for Tata’s new compact SUV.
Both the Safari and Harrier experienced MoM declines. The Safari saw a 15.74% drop in sales, from 1,951 units in August to 1,644 units in September 2024. The Harrier followed with a 15.43% decrease, selling 1,600 units in September compared to 1,892 units in August.
The Tiago and Altroz also posted MoM declines. The Tiago recorded a 10.73% drop in sales, down to 4,225 units from 4,733 units in August 2024. The Altroz saw a 9.01% MoM decline, with 2,758 units sold in September, compared to 3,031 units in August.
At the lower end, the Tigor witnessed a 22.13% MoM drop, with 894 units sold in September 2024, down from 1,148 units in August.
