In March 2023, only 3 carmakers contributed towards the top 10 selling car sales – Maruti Suzuki, Tata, and Hyundai.

As you can see at the table, out of 10 cars, 7 cars are just by Maruti Suzuki which are Swift, WagonR, Brezza, Baleno, Dzire, Eeco, and Grand Vitara. The other three cars are by Tata and Hyundai out of which, two cars are of Tata – Nexon and Punch, where as Hyundai’s one model, Creta was at 6th position in the list. Starting with Swift, it sold 17,559 units in March 2022 which is 28.89% year-on-year growth against the 13,623 units in March 2022 with increased volume growth by 3,936 units.

Next is the WagonR, it sold 17,305 units in March 2022 against the 24,634 units in March 2022 which is year-on-year decline by 29.75% with decreased volume growth by 7,329 units. Then at 3rd position is the Brezza, launched in 2022 to rival the Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet, sold 16,227 units in March 2023 which is 30.45% year-on-year growth against the 12439 units in March 2022 with increased volume growth by 3,788 units.

The 4th Maruti Suzuki car in the line-up ranked at 4th position is the Baleno, it sold 16,168 units in March 2023 against the 14,520 units in March 2022 which is 11.34% year-on-year growth with 1,648 units increased volume growth. At 5t position is the Tata Nexon as it sold 14,769 units in March 2023 which is 3.17% year-on-year growth against the 14,315 units in March 2022 with increased volume growth by 454 units.

Hyundai Creta at 6th position sold 14,026 units in March 2023 against the 10,532 units in March 2022 which is 33.17% year-on-year growth with increased volume growth by 3,494 units. Maruti Suzuki is back at 7th position with Dzire as it sold 13,394 units in March 2023 against the 18,623 units in March 2022 which is decline year-on-year growth by 28.07% with decreased volume growth by 5,229 units. At 8th position is the EECO, it sold 11,995 units in March 2023 which is 30.08% year-on-year growth against the 9,221 units in March 2022 with increased volume growth by 2,774 units.

At 9th position is the Tata with it’s SUV, Punch, as it sold 10,895 units in March 2023 which is 3.51% year-on-year growth against the 10,525 units in March 2022 with increased volume growth by 370 units. The Maruti Suzuki’s Grand Vitara is at No. 10 position as it sold 10,045 units in March 2023 and nothing in March 2022 as the Vitara was first launched in September 2022.

Maruti Suzuki will be launching it’s new Baleno-Cross SUV, Fronx, later this month, along with the 5-door version Jimny launching in May 2023. Tata is working on not one, not two, but three cars – Nexon, Harrier, and Safari. All these Tata Cars are going to get facelift update which will launch later this year. Lastly, Hyundai will be launching the Exter SUV which is also scheduled to launch later this year.
