Maruti Wagon R Electric will be priced aggressively in India and comes in 150 km and 200 km variants.
Maruti Suzuki has been testing 50 WagonR electric cars in India for a past few months.Recently, it also have been spotted in high altitude as well.The WagonR EV will be the first electric car by India’s largest carmaker and to make it a success, the price of this hatchback will be around Rs. 7 Lakhs.
Now comes the range of WagonR electric.It will come in two variants – 150 km and 200 km range.The price will vary according to the version you choose.Price is expected to be between Rs. 7 Lakhs and Rs. 8.5 Lakhs (Ex-Showroom).This will really grab the attention of number of people who are looking for easy on pocket city car.
Through a quick charge, around 75-80% of the battery of EV wagonR will be charged in less than 45 minutes.While for a full charge, the total time will be around 90 minutes.You are getting around 170 km of range in just 40 minutes!
The price of WagonR EV will be very competitive as Indian government is finalising the details of Faster Adoption and Manufacture of Electric Vehicle Scheme II (FAME II) which will bring down the cost of electric vehicles by offering large subsidies.The road tax for electric cars will be waived off thus bringing down the cost of EV cars by a big margin.
In terms of design, it will be slightly different than the standard variant.WagonR EV will only come in 5 seater trim.No 7 seater is expected anytime soon.
Along with this, charging infrastructure for electric vehicle is in process to be setup at every 25 km to make electric vehicles a success and to curb pollution by shifting from petrol and diesel vehicles.Not only WagonR EV will be coming soon in the Indian market.There are a number of other similar cars that will be making their entry in Q4 2019 or beginning of 2020.
MG eZS electric SUV has also been confirmed for October 2019 launch with a range of 250 km and it will be offered at a price tag of more than 20 Lakhs.Most recent will be the Hyundai Kona which will also likely to fall in the same price bracket with similar range.XUV 300 EV with range options of 250 km and massive 400 km is also coming in late 2020.
The direct rival of Wagon R electric includes Tiago EV and Renault Kwid EV which are due for their launch in 2020.
