
Ford India has received Supreme Court order to pay Rs. 42 lakhs as compensation for selling a defective Ford Endeavour to a customer and for failing to resolve the issues reported.
According to a recent report, the Supreme Court of India has ordered the Ford India to compensate a customer with Rs. 42 lakh for receiving a defective Ford Endeavour he had purchased.

In our country, consumer courts exists to protect the rights of our people, but not many people are aware about the benefits of the system. Recently, a report came out that states Supreme Court has ordered Ford India to pay Rs. 42 lakh as compensation to a customer for getting a defective Endeavour on purchase. We don’t know which variant customer had purchased, but it’s said to be 3.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine producing 197 bhp and 470 Nm of torque paired to 6-speed Automatic Gearbox.
Since the purchase, the customer has been facing issues with the vehicle, and sometime later, he filed a complaint with the Punjab State Consumer Commission. The date of purchase and complaint remains a mystery, but its definitely a BS4 model given Ford had updated the engine to comply with the newly implemented BS6 norms few years ago. The 3.2-litre turbocharged diesel was only available with the older version between the year 2015 – 2020. The complaint filed by the customer was about defects and issues like oil leakage from the engine on purchase of the SUV.
After investigation, the Punjab State Consumer Commission ordered Ford India to pay Rs. 2,000 per day as compensation and also repair the engine for free. However, National Commission had upheld the order, and later Ford appealed against the Supreme Court’s order, and during this pending appeal approval, Ford replaced the engine. But the customer reports even after the replacement, the issues continues to be the same affecting the smooth function of the SUV making the car unsuitable to drive on the road.
A bench consisting of Justice Surya Kant and Justice Dipankar Dutta issued an order to Ford India to pay compensate the customer of Rs. 42 lakh for selling defective car. The company already paid Rs. 6 lakh following the order of the State Commission and now only has to pay the remaining Rs. 36 lakh with an additional Rs. 87,000 for car insurance. The court instructed the customer to return the once he has received the full payment.
