
Maruti Suzuki has launched the 5-door Jimny in India starting at Rs. 12.74 lakh for the entry-level Zeta variant and goes up to Rs. 15.05 lakh for the top Alpha variant.
Maruti Suzuki has finally launched the much-awaited 5-door Jimny made specifically for India. The 5-door Jimny was first showcased at the Auto Expo in January 2023 along with the new Baleno-based SUV, Fronx.
Maruti Suzuki Jimny – What you need to know!
Maruti 5-door Jimny from the outside looks like box-shape SUV. It has round shape LED headlamps with five rectangular blocks on the grille and the logo in center. The Jimny has body cladding all over the body and small LED foglamps on the hard-plastic black body at the front. It has faux silver skid plate bumper at the front. Moving to the side, it has upright pillars, with square shape windows and the extended portion behind the rear door has a large vertical glass surrounded by thick pillars. Moving to the rear, it has spare wheel mounted on the door with exposed hinges, and the taillamps are on the bumpers. The Jimny rides on the 15-inch alloy wheels.
From the inside, the Jimny has a 9-inch infotainment system with a rectangular shape AC vent below and round AC vents at the sides. On the dashboard it has a grab handle to either get in the Jimny or to hold onto it when off-roading. It has three-spoke multi-function steering wheel with Analog instrument cluster and a TFT display between the analog dials.
Below the auto climate controls, there are buttons for hill descent control, traction control, window control for passenger and driver, and right next to the engine start/stop there is button called headlamp washer to sprinkle some water on the headlamps. The Jimny has the AllGrip Pro 4WD System with Manual Transfer-case and low-range gearbox with ‘2WD-high’, ‘4WD-low’, and ‘4WD-high’ modes, and just below that is the buttons for window controls for the rear passenger. The front passenger and driver can be fully reclined as well. The rear seats are split in 60:40 ratio and it has 4-speaker Arkamy’s sound system.

When it comes to dimensions, he Jimny measures 3985mm in length which is the same as Mahindra Thar, 1645mm in width while the Thar has 1820mm width which is wider by 175mm and 1720mm in height that is shorter by 135mm than the Thar’s 1855mm. It has a wheelbase of 2590mm that is longer than the Thar’s wheelbase, ground clearance of 210mm which is lower than the Thar’s 226mm clearance, and boot space of 208 litres. It’s got a fuel tank of 40 litres while the Thar’s got 57 litres, kerb weight of Jimny is 1,210 kg which is lighter than the Thar, and gross vehicle weight of 1,545 kg.

The 5-door Maruti Jimny has only one powertrain which is the petrol powertrain. The Jimny is powered by the 1.5-litre K15B Petrol engine that puts out 103.39 bhp and 134.2 Nm of torque paired to a 5-speed Manual Gearbox with 16.94 kmpl fuel efficiency and 4-speed Automatic Gearbox with 16.39 kmpl fuel efficiency.

Only the Alpha variants get’s dual-tone option. Maruti Jimny has over 30,000 bookings with deliveries to commence in the coming weeks. Since, it’s the only off-road SUV with 5-doors, it has no direct competition except it’ll meet it’s rival in 2024 when Mahindra will launch their 5-door Thar, and Force will launch their 5-door Gurkha.
