Toyota Rumion against the Toyota Innova HyCross!

Toyota India recently announced that it’ll be launching the Ertiga-based MUV, Rumion sometime in September 2023. So, we thought why don’t we compare the Toyota Rumion against it’s own model, the Innova HyCross.

Toyota Rumion vs Toyota Innova HyCross – Design

From the outside, the Toyota Rumion at the front has few cuts on the bonnet, front grille has small hexagonal pattern with chrome around the grille and Toyota logo at the center. The headlamps will be halogen and below that will be LED fog lamps, and there is more chrome below the big grille. From the side, the body has cuts and creases same as the Ertiga, 15-inch alloy wheels with new design, and chrome door handles. Moving to the rear, the design will be same as the Ertiga like the L-shaped LED taillamps, and rear wiper on the rear windscreen.

Front the outside, the Innova HyCross has an LED headlamps with a huge front face with chrome line around the grille and at the bottom, it has LED DRLs that act as a indicators as well. The bonnet of the HyCross has cuts on it to give it a meaner or sportier look. Moving to the side, it has cuts as well, chrome line that runs at the bottom of the window frame, wheel arches as it rides on 18-inch alloy wheels. Moving to the rear, it has LED taillamps with roof spoiler, shark fin antenna on the top, and the bumper are skid plate.

From the inside, Toyota Rumion has an 7-inch infotainment system placed between the AC vents and the AC vents at the sides are in rectangle shape that is positioned horizontally to blend with the dashboard design. It has dual-tone dashboard design option as well. The Rumion has a three-spoke multi-function steering wheel with analog instrument cluster and a TFT display between the two analog dials, and the pedals are finished in black color. It has an armrest that doesn’t slide and fabric seat upholstery. Moving to the second row, the seats are split in 60:40 ratio, and the third row seats is split in 50:50 ratio, and the AC vents is placed on the roof and the MUV is equipped with 6-speaker Arkamy’s sound system.

From the inside, the Innova HyCross has a 10.1-inch infotainment system placed above the rectangular shaped AC vents and the AC vents at the sides are positioned horizontally. It has the dual-tone dashboard theme option and has leather seat upholstery. The HyCross has the three-spoke multi-function steering wheels with a digital instrument cluster and the push start/stop button is placed on the left side near the infotainment system. It has a huge panoramic sunroof, two charging ports at the front, two charging ports in the second row and third row. Around the gear lever, it has buttons for ventilated seats, electric parking brake with auto hold, EV mode (drives on electric power) and other things as well. The second row gets the captain seats with under thigh support as well, and between the two captain seats is the table with two cupholders. The third row is not great and it’s better for children or adults for short journeys. It also has 9-speaker JBL sound system.

In terms of Dimensions, the Rumion measures 4490mm in length, 1735mm in width, and 1690mm in height. On the other hand, the Innova HyCross measures 4755mm in length which is 265mm longer, 1845mm in width which is 110mm wider, and 1785mm in height which is 95mm taller. The Rumion features a wheelbase of 2740mm, and boot space of 209 litres. In Comparison, the HyCross has a longer wheelbase of 2850mm (110mm more), and larger boot space of 300 litres (91 litres). Both the MUV has the same ground clearance of 185mm. The Rumion has a petrol fuel tank of 45 litres which is smaller by 7 litres from the 52 litres petrol fuel tank of HyCross. The Rumion also comes with one more fuel option, CNG, with 60 litre cylinder sitting in the boot space.

In Engine Options, Toyota Rumion and the Innova HyCross is powered by the normal Petrol powertrain. The Rumion is powered by the 1.5-litre K15C Smart Hybrid Petrol Engine that puts out 101.65 bhp and 136.8 Nm of torque paired to a 5-speed Manual Gearbox with 20.51 kmpl fuel efficiency, and 6-speed Automatic Gearbox with 20.3 kmpl fuel efficiency. On the other hand, the Innova HyCross is powered by a 2.0-litre TNGA in-Line Petrol that pumps out 172.99 bhp and 209 Nm of torque. It drives the front wheels via a CVT with Sequential Shift Gearbox with 16.13 kmpl fuel efficiency.

Other than the Petrol powertrain, the Toyota Rumion is powered by CNG powertrain. The 1.5-litre K15C CNG Engine produces 86.63 bhp and 121.5 Nm of torque paired to 5-speed Manual Gearbox with fuel efficiency of 26.11 km/kg for the Rumion.

Other than the petrol powertrain, the Innova HyCross comes with petrol-hybrid powertrain as well, something the Rumion will most probably won’t get in the future.  The 2.0-litre TNGA 5th Generation in-line Petrol-Hybrid puts out 183.72 bhp and 188 Nm mated to an eCVT Gearbox with fuel efficiency of 23.24 kmpl.

In the end, the decision to buy which MUV depends totally on you, however, if you ask us, you should go for the Innova HyCross as it comes with loads of features, powerful engine and performance, spacious, and luxurious. You can also opt for the Rumion if you’re looking for an affordable MUV that is spacious enough to accommodate seven people easily, and comes decent features, and fuel efficiency.
