Two new performance models are coming in second quarter of 2025 that will capture the market by storm!

Volkswagen India has officially announced the launch of two global models, the all-new Tiguan R-Line and the legendary Golf GTI, in the second quarter of 2025. Both models will be imported as Completely Built Units (CBUs) and will be available at a premium price.

Volkswagen’s Expansion Strategy in India

The German automaker has been witnessing steady growth, registering a 3% increase in sales volumes year-to-date (YTD) in February 2025 compared to last year. To strengthen its presence in India, Volkswagen will introduce 150 units of the Golf GTI and 300 units of the Tiguan R-Line in the first batch.

Speaking about the launch, Ashish Gupta, Brand Director, Volkswagen India, said:

“Volkswagen brand has been known for the performance, driving dynamics, build quality, and safety of its products, offering a wide product portfolio to millions of customers across the world. Our made-in-India, made-for-the-world Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus have carried forward these global credentials in India as well. Taking our performance legacy forward, we are elated to bring our global icons to customers in India – the all-new Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line and the legendary Golf GTI. We strongly believe these icons are truly aspirational and will permeate excitement among customers and fans of the brand.”

Volkswagen Golf GTI – Performance & Features

The Volkswagen Golf GTI is a high-performance hatchback powered by a 2.0 L turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 261 BHP and 370 NM of torque. The car sprints from 0-100 kmph in just 5.9 seconds at a top speed of 250 kmph (electronically limited). The India-spec version is expected to be available only with a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission.

In terms of design, the Golf GTI features LED matrix headlights, a honeycomb-patterned grille, red GTI badging, 18-inch ‘Richmond’ alloy wheels, dual exhaust tips, and a sporty rear profile. Inside, it gets a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 30-colour ambient lighting, heated front seats, surround lighting with a welcome function, wireless charging, and e-SIM connectivity.

Several Volkswagen dealers have reportedly started accepting unofficial bookings for the Golf GTI, with an expected price of around Rs. 50-52 lakh (ex-showroom). Deliveries in India are expected to begin in August 2025.

Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line – What to Expect

The all-new Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line is built on the updated MQB Evo platform, offering enhanced styling, premium features, and a more dynamic driving experience. Unlike the standard Tiguan sold in India, this performance-oriented R-Line variant will come loaded with additional features and a sportier design.

Powering the Tiguan R-Line will be a 2.0 L turbocharged petrol engine, paired with a 7-speed DSG transmission and Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system. Globally, the SUV is offered with multiple hybrid and diesel engine options, but only the petrol variant is expected to launch in India.

Key exterior highlights include IQ.Light HD matrix LED headlights, a bolder grille, a sportier bumper with large air intakes, 3D LED rear combination lamps, and 20-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. The SUV also features body-coloured side skirts, silver/black roof rails, and chrome accents for a premium appeal.

Inside, the Tiguan R-Line boasts a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster with customizable menus, an 8-speaker premium sound system, heated front seats with a massage function, and 3-zone climate control. Safety features include adaptive cruise control, driver drowsiness detection, electronic parking brake with auto hold, hill start assist, rear-view camera, and park assist.

Volkswagen’s Performance Lineup Returns to India

The Golf GTI will be the second ‘GTI’ model from Volkswagen in India, following the limited-run Polo GTI that was briefly sold in the market. Meanwhile, the Tiguan R-Line will offer a more premium and sportier alternative to the standard Tiguan SUV.

With these two new models, Volkswagen aims to expand its footprint in India’s premium car segment while catering to enthusiasts who value German engineering, driving dynamics, and performance.
