Delhi is set to get a new Ring Road with aims to reduce traffic congestion and enhance connectivity for the commuters!
Delhi is gearing up for the launch of its third Ring Road, the Urban Extension Road II (UER-II), aimed at easing traffic congestion across the city. The Office of the Lieutenant Governor has confirmed that the 75-km stretch will become operational by December 2024. Developed by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), the project carries a budget of Rs. 3,600 crore and was initially conceptualized by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA).

UER II to Boost Connectivity Between Delhi and Haryana
UER II spans 75.71 km, with over 50 km falling within Delhi’s borders and the remaining stretch passing through the Haryana. The six-lane road will connect several key areas, including north, northwest, west, southwest, and outer Delhi, streamlining travel across the city and nearby regions.
The road will seamlessly link multiple highways and expressways, such as:
- NH-44 and NH-48: Connecting North India to South Delhi
- Dwarka Expressway: Enhancing connectivity between Gurugram and Delhi
- Eastern and Western Peripheral Expressways: Offering additional bypass routes around the capital

Critical Routes Covered by UER II
The new Ring Road will benefit several crucial localities, including Bawana, Narela-Kanjhawala, Mundka, and Dwarka. It will also provide smooth access to towns like Sonepat, Jind, Bahadurgarh, and Najafgarh. Commuters traveling to and from the airport are expected to see a significant reduction in travel time once the project is fully operational.
Final Thoughts
Though UER-II faced delays—it was initially planned for completion in January 2024 and was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in March—the upcoming launch promises much-needed relief to Delhi’s traffic woes. With better connectivity and reduced congestion, the new Ring Road is set to transform commuting across the national capital and surrounding areas.
