Toyota India has just launched a new SUV with big features that none of its rivals may have saw it coming!
Toyota has updated the Urban Cruiser Hyryder for 2025 with significant feature additions, a new AWD automatic variant, and improved safety. Pices starting from Rs. 11.34 lakh (ex-showroom), the updated model aims to attract more buyers with its enhanced value proposition.
New 6-Speed AT AWD Variant Introduced
One of the most notable updates in the 2025 Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder is the introduction of a new 6-speed automatic gearbox with the V AWD variant. This replaces the earlier 5-speed manual setup and positions the AWD variant more premium in the lineup. Customers looking for a manual AWD combo will now have to consider the Maruti Grand Vitara Alpha, which shares its platform with the Hyryder but is priced slightly lower and benefits from Maruti’s wider dealership network.
The switch to an automatic transmission in the AWD variant is likely a response to customer demand, making the SUV more accessible and convenient for urban and adventure buyers alike. This update could help Toyota improve its sales, especially as the Grand Vitara currently outsells the Hyryder by more than double.
Feature Enhancements
Toyota has introduced several new features, especially in the higher variants of the 2025 Hyryder. These include:
- 8-way power adjustable driver seat
- Ambient lighting
- Rear door sunshades
- Electronic Parking Brake with Auto Hold
- AQI Monitor
Standard equipment across all variants now includes LED reading lights and USB Type-C fast charging ports. A revised speedometer for better clarity has also been introduced. Select automatic variants now come with an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) for added convenience.
One of the biggest upgrades is in safety—six airbags are now standard across all variants. Previously, only the top trims offered six airbags, while entry-level variants had just two. Toyota has also added structural reinforcements for improved crash protection.
Powertrain
The 2025 Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder retains its existing powertrains. Mild-hybrid variants use a 1.5-litre petrol engine sourced from Maruti Suzuki, delivering 102 BHP and 136.8 Nm of torque. It is available with 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission options in 2WD variants. The new 6AT is exclusive to the V AWD variant.
The mild hybrid also comes with a petrol+CNG option, offering an impressive mileage of 26.6 km/kg. Among all mild-hybrid variants, the 2WD 5MT delivers the highest mileage at 21.11 kmpl.
The strong hybrid variant continues to use a Toyota-sourced 1.5-litre petrol engine paired with an electric motor and lithium-ion battery. This setup generates a combined power output of 113 BHP and uses an e-CVT gearbox. It delivers an excellent fuel economy of 27.97 km/l, which is higher than the CNG model.
Value and Peace of Mind
Toyota has also extended the hybrid battery warranty to 8 years or 1.6 lakh km, adding more value and peace of mind for customers. Bookings for the updated Urban Cruiser Hyryder are now open both at dealerships and online.
Speaking on the launch, Varinder Wadhwa, Vice President, Sales-Service-Used Car Business, said:
“As the SUV segment evolves, we continue to refresh and elevate our lineup to stay ahead of the curve. The latest Urban Cruiser Hyryder is a testament to our commitment for best-in-segment technology, advanced safety, and superior comfort. Crafted for modern SUV buyers, it seamlessly blends Toyota’s legendary quality, sustainability, and driving pleasure.”
With these updates, Toyota is clearly aiming to strengthen its position in the compact SUV segment by offering a feature-rich, safe, and fuel-efficient vehicle.
