
New Flagship SUV from Volkswagen has officially landed in India in its range-topping variant that has more features to offer than Toyota Fortuner!
Volkswagen has officially launched the 3rd-gen Tiguan R-Line in India at an introductory price of Rs. 48.99 lakh (ex-showroom). This marks the debut of the latest-generation Tiguan in the Indian market, positioned as the brand’s flagship SUV. Bookings are open via the brand’s official website and dealerships, while deliveries are set to begin on 23rd April 2025.
Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line: Platform, Dimensions and Design
The new Tiguan is based on the MQB Evo platform, promising improved driving dynamics and ride quality. In terms of dimensions, it measures 4,539 mm in length, 1,859 mm in width, 1,656 mm in height, and has a 2,680 mm wheelbase. Boot space has also improved over the outgoing 2nd-gen model.
In terms of design, the 3rd-gen Tiguan adopts a rounder, more aerodynamic styling. Being an R-Line trim, it features sportier design touches such as 19-inch Coventry alloy wheels, connected LED projector headlamps, R-Line badges, sporty bumpers, and 3D connected LED tail-lamps. The SUV is offered in six exterior colours, including Persimmon Red Metallic and Cipressino Green Metallic.
Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line: Interior and Features
The cabin of the Tiguan R-Line feels upmarket with premium additions. It comes equipped with a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 10.25-inch digital cockpit with R-specific graphics, head-up display (HUD), and 30-colour ambient lighting. Other features include triple-zone climate control, massaging seats with adjustable lumbar support, a panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, and an 8-speaker audio system.
The R-Line also gets unique R branding on the seats and dashboard, redesigned AC vents, and a drive mode selector switch for different driving conditions.
Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line: Engine, Performance and Safety
Powering the Tiguan R-Line is a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder TSI turbo petrol engine delivering 201 bhp and 320 Nm of peak torque. This engine is paired with a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission and comes with Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system as standard.
It also features DCC (Dynamic Chassis Control) for better high-speed stability and handling. In terms of safety, the Tiguan R-Line is equipped with Level-2 ADAS (21 features), 9 airbags, parking assist, and more.
Final Thoughts
With its sporty styling, powerful engine, premium interior and safety tech, the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line is now the most feature-loaded SUV in Volkswagen India’s portfolio. However, it will be available only in one fully-loaded variant via the CBU route, making it a premium and exclusive offering for Indian buyers.
