SUVs, MPVs and Hybrids Continue to Lead Volumes
Toyota’s portfolio strength lies in its SUVs and MPVs such as the Innova HyCross, Hyryder, Fortuner, and Urban Cruiser Taisor. The growing popularity of strong hybrid technology has also played a key role in increasing sales.
In June 2025, the company introduced mild-hybrid versions of the Fortuner and Legender with 48V systems. Toyota has confirmed that the initial market response to these variants has been positive.
Manufacturing and Strategic Partnerships
Toyota operates two manufacturing units in Bidadi, Karnataka. The first plant produces models like the Innova HyCross, Innova Crysta, Fortuner and Legender. The second plant, with a capacity of 2.10 lakh units, handles production of the Camry Hybrid, Hilux, and Urban Cruiser Hyryder.
Badge-engineered products developed with Maruti Suzuki such as the Urban Cruiser Taisor (based on the Fronx), Glanza (based on Baleno), and Rumion (based on Ertiga) are also contributing significantly to Toyota’s monthly numbers.
Toyota is preparing to enter the Indian EV space with its first all-electric SUV, the Urban Cruiser BEV. It will share many components with the upcoming Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara, set for launch in September 2025. The Toyota EV is expected to arrive by the end of the year with two battery pack options and a claimed range of over 500 km.
Final Thoughts
Toyota continues to strengthen its position in the Indian automotive market through consistent sales growth, a strong hybrid lineup, expanding exports, and upcoming EV plans. With increasing demand for its core SUV and MPV models and innovations in alternative fuel technologies, Toyota is set for a solid second half of 2025.
