Volkswagen India has officially launched the iconic Golf GTI performance hatchback in the country!
Priced at Rs 53 lakh (ex-showroom), the hot hatch is brought in via the CBU (Completely Built-Up) route, making it the most expensive VW model currently on sale in India. This marks the first time the globally popular VW Golf has entered the Indian market. The version launched is the Mk 8.5 iteration, which is the latest update of the eighth-gen model. Internationally, the Golf is considered a legendary nameplate, approaching its 50th anniversary, with over 37 million units sold globally.
Limited Units and Colour Options
Volkswagen India has confirmed that the first batch of 150 units has already been fully booked. Based on market demand, a second batch of 100 units is expected later this year. Customer deliveries are scheduled to begin in June 2025.
The Golf GTI is available in four colours: Kings Red Metallic, Oryx White Pearl, Moonstone Grey, and Grenadilla Black Metallic.
Exterior and Interior Features
The GTI version stands apart from the standard Golf with its distinct performance styling. Key exterior features include Matrix LED headlights, GTI badge on the grille, illuminated Volkswagen logo, dual exhaust tips, roof spoiler, red brake callipers, and 3D-effect LED tail lamps with animated turn signals. The car rides on 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, adding to its sporty stance.
Inside, the cabin is loaded with premium features such as a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 10.25-inch digital cockpit, ambient lighting, head-up display, automatic climate control, and connected car technology. GTI-specific elements like red contrast stitching, GTI badging, flat-bottom leather steering wheel, and heated front seats elevate the sportiness of the interior.
Performance Specs and Safety
Under the hood, the Golf GTI is powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine delivering 265 PS of peak power and 370 Nm of torque. It is paired with a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission and features paddle shifters for enhanced driving control. Power is sent to the front wheels via a locking front differential. The car can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.9 seconds, and its top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h.
In terms of safety and tech, the GTI offers seven airbags, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and Level 2 ADAS features, adding to the car’s overall appeal as a modern performance machine.
VW India’s Official Statement

Indian customers have evolved into performance lovers who also value heritage, design, and technology. While it carries a hefty price tag, its performance credentials and iconic status may appeal to enthusiasts who want a rare, high-performance hatch that blends heritage with modern tech.
