Toyota has launched the New Fortuner Hybrid in India in both standard and Legender forms!
Toyota has officially launched the Neo Drive 48V mild-hybrid variants of the Fortuner and Legender SUVs in India. Prices start at Rs 44.72 lakh for the Fortuner and go up to Rs 50.09 lakh for the Legender (ex-showroom). Bookings are now open, and deliveries are scheduled to begin in the third week of June 2025.
48V Mild-Hybrid Tech for Fortuner and Legender
Both SUVs continue to use Toyota’s proven 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that produces 204 hp and 500 Nm. However, the big update is the addition of a 48V mild-hybrid system which includes a belt-integrated starter generator (BSG) and a compact lithium-ion battery pack. This setup, already available internationally on the Fortuner and Hilux, supports features like regenerative braking and an automatic start-stop system to improve efficiency, especially during city commutes.
The mild-hybrid assist helps reduce engine load at low speeds, resulting in smoother acceleration, better fuel economy, and reduced emissions. Toyota claims an estimated fuel efficiency improvement of around 10 percent with this update. The hybrid system also enhances crawl performance and provides a quieter, more refined driving experience during slow-speed operations.
Features Enhanced
Visually, both Fortuner and Legender Neo Drive variants remain unchanged except for the Neo Drive badging. The Legender continues with its aggressive dual-tone exterior styling and split LED headlamps, while the Fortuner keeps its muscular, upright stance.
On the inside, the layout remains familiar with leather upholstery, soft-touch materials, and a spacious cabin designed for long-distance comfort. However, Toyota has updated the equipment list by adding a 360-degree camera system for better manoeuvrability and wireless smartphone charging as standard on the hybrid trims.
Safety and Warranty Benefits
These Neo Drive variants are positioned high in the Fortuner lineup, sitting just below the GR-S variant in terms of pricing. Compared to their non-hybrid 4×4 automatic counterparts, the hybrid models cost about Rs 2 lakh more. Safety continues to be a priority with features such as seven airbags, traction control, stability control, hill assist, speed-sensing door locks, ISOFIX mounts, and emergency braking assistance.
Toyota is also offering finance plans with up to 8 years of coverage, low EMI options, and pre-approved upgrade benefits. Buyers get five years of complimentary roadside assistance, and warranty coverage can be extended up to 5 years or 2.2 lakh kilometres.
