Volkswagen is all set to launch new performance SUV in India in April 14, 2025!

Volkswagen has confirmed the launch of the Tiguan R-Line in India on April 14, 2025. The new-gen Tiguan R-Line will be the range-topping variant of the SUV and will arrive as a Completely Built Unit (CBU). It will be Volkswagen’s most expensive SUV in India, positioned above the standard Tiguan. The Tiguan R-Line is the first of two new models planned by VW India, with the Golf GTI set to arrive a few weeks later.

Exterior Design & Dimensions

The new-generation Tiguan R-Line is built on the MQB Evo platform and has grown in size, now measuring 30 mm longer and 4 mm taller, while the wheelbase remains unchanged at 2,680 mm. The design has evolved with a curvier silhouette, enhancing aerodynamics and reducing the drag coefficient to 0.28 Cd. The front and rear feature full-width LED light bars, complemented by HD Matrix LED headlamps. The SUV gets sportier front and rear bumpers, along with side panels designed specifically for the R-Line variant. A rear spoiler further improves aerodynamics, and the global model rides on 20-inch alloy wheels. The R-Line badging is prominently placed on the front doors, distinguishing it from the standard Tiguan.

Interior & Features

Inside, the Tiguan R-Line offers a premium and technology-packed cabin. The dashboard has a clean and modern layout, featuring Volkswagen’s latest MIB4 infotainment system that supports over-the-air (OTA) updates. The SUV comes with a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 15.1-inch freestanding touchscreen infotainment system in the global model. The interior is further enhanced by sports seats with improved side bolstering, providing better comfort and support. Ambient lighting is available with 30 color options, allowing for a customizable cabin atmosphere. The SUV is also equipped with a three-zone climate control system, ensuring optimal comfort for all passengers.

Engine & Performance

The India-spec Tiguan R-Line is expected to be powered by a 2.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine producing 265 hp and 400 Nm of torque. It will be paired with a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission and come with all-wheel drive (AWD).

Globally, the Tiguan R-Line is also offered with mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and diesel engine options, but these are unlikely to be available in India. Additionally, international versions get Dynamic Chassis Control Pro with adaptive suspension and twin-valve variable dampers, though it remains to be seen if these features will make it to the Indian model.

Expected Price & Rivals

Volkswagen is likely to price the Tiguan R-Line around Rs. 50 lakh (ex-showroom). It will compete against entry-level luxury SUVs, including the Mercedes-Benz GLA, BMW X1, and Audi Q3.

With its sporty R-Line styling, tech-laden interior, and powerful engine, the Tiguan R-Line will be an attractive option for enthusiasts looking for a performance-oriented premium SUV.
