Tata’s Rs. 12 Lakh SUV with more premium offering than Harrier and Safari combined!
Tata Motors is bringing back one of its most iconic SUVs – the Sierra – but with a completely modern twist. While the design still pays homage to the original Sierra from the 90s, the new version is a feature-loaded, tech-forward SUV that aims to make a strong mark in the midsize SUV space. Here’s what to expect from the upcoming Tata Sierra.
New Tata Sierra – Design
The all-new Sierra carries forward the DNA of the original model with a much more futuristic approach. Up front, it gets a sleek connected LED DRL strip, while the rear also sports connected LED tail-lamps. The silhouette retains key Sierra elements like the large alpine windows and a tall, upright stance.
Flush-fitting door handles, thick body cladding, a high bonnet, and bold, squarish wheel arches give it a solid and premium look. Inside, Tata has gone all out on tech. The cabin is expected to feature three 12.3-inch screens – one each for the digital instrument cluster, infotainment system, and even a touchscreen for the front passenger. A four-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo, ambient lighting, and premium materials further elevate the cabin experience. Tata will offer the Sierra in both 4-seater and 5-seater layouts.
New Tata Sierra – Powertrain
The Sierra will first launch in its electric avatar, with the ICE version following later. The ICE variant will be available with two engine options – a 1.5 L turbo-petrol engine producing 168 BHP and 280 Nm, and a 2.0 L diesel engine with 168 BHP and 350 Nm. Both engines will come paired with a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox.
For the EV version, Tata is expected to offer two battery pack options – a 55 kWh and a larger 65 kWh unit. While the 55 kWh battery is likely to deliver a range between 350 to 400 km, the 65 kWh pack could offer 500+ km on a single charge. The top-spec EV variant is also expected to come with an AWD system, exclusive to the higher battery option.
New Tata Sierra – Features
The Tata Sierra is expected to be the most feature-packed SUV in Tata’s current lineup. It will come equipped with triple 12.3-inch screens, a panoramic sunroof, powered front seats, dual-zone climate control, powered tailgate, rear sun-blinds, a front wireless charger, and a JBL sound system. Drive and terrain modes will also be on offer, enhancing its off-road and on-road versatility.
In terms of safety, the Sierra will offer Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree surround view camera, seven airbags, disc brakes on all four wheels, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, TPMS, hill descent control, rain-sensing wipers, and automatic headlamps.
New Tata Sierra – Launch Timeline
Tata Motors is currently testing the Sierra SUV, and the electric version will launch first during the festive season in the second half of 2025. The ICE version is likely to follow towards the end of the year. At 4.3 metres in length, the Sierra will rival SUVs like the Hyundai Creta and Maruti Grand Vitara, but with its features and tech, it may also appeal to buyers looking at higher-segment options like the Tata Harrier.
