Tata is all set to get a new premium rival from Mahindra which will have more features and space packed!
Mahindra, India’s current leader in the D-SUV segment with models like the Scorpio N, Thar Roxx, and XUV700, is preparing a facelifted version of the XUV700 that has now been spotted testing for the very first time. The updated model is expected to go on sale in 2026, with the possibility of a new name — XUV7XO — aligning with Mahindra’s latest naming strategy.
New Design
The facelifted Mahindra XUV700 seen is still in its early testing phase. The test mule is heavily camouflaged, but a few design changes are visible. At the front, a bolder grille with more pronounced vertical slats draws inspiration from the recently launched XUV 3XO. The bumper appears revised as well, though finer details remain hidden. Circular headlamps currently fitted are likely borrowed from the Thar Roxx and may be placeholders for the final units.
Fog lamps are not visible, suggesting either removal or concealment. The flush-fitting door handles continue from the current model, while the side profile and rear remain largely unchanged for now. However, future test mules may reveal more tweaks including updated tail lamp internals and a redesigned rear bumper. Mahindra may also offer new alloy wheels and additional exterior colour options in the production model.
New Interiors
Inside the cabin, Mahindra is expected to introduce updated upholstery, new material trims, and a range of premium features. Inspired by its electric flagship XEV 9e and upcoming BE range, the XUV700 facelift could get front and rear ventilated seats, a triple-screen dashboard setup, rear seat ottoman function, a digital key, self-parking tech, and a much-requested auto-dimming IRVM. Enhanced sound quality with a new Harman audio system supporting Dolby technology is also anticipated.
Engine Options and Platform Likely to Remain Unchanged
The XUV700 facelift is expected to continue using the same powertrains — a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine delivering 197 bhp and 380 Nm, and a 2.2-litre diesel unit with outputs up to 182 bhp and 450 Nm. These engines will remain paired with 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatic gearboxes. While Mahindra is actively developing plug-in hybrid technologies for its mid-size SUV lineup, such updates are not expected to be part of the 2026 XUV700 facelift.
Launch Timeline
The updated XUV700, or potentially the XUV7XO, will most likely launch in 2026 as a mid-cycle refresh with notable design revisions and feature additions. It will continue to target rivals in the D-segment SUV space while strengthening Mahindra’s dominance in this category. As test mules progress in development, more visual and feature-related details are expected to surface in the coming months.
