Hyundai’s new SUV redefines hydrogen mobility with futuristic design, lightning-fast refueling, and a 700 km range!
Hyundai has revealed the next-generation 2025 Nexo at the Seoul Auto Show 2025. Based on the Initium Concept, which debuted at the 2024 LA Auto Show, the all-new hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicle (FCEV) gets a complete design overhaul, a more powerful drivetrain, and an improved driving range.
2025 Hyundai Nexo: Exterior Design
The new Hyundai Nexo closely resembles the Initium Concept, featuring a boxy and futuristic design. Up front, it gets quad-pixel LED headlights, a bold air dam, and a double-dash LED DRL signature. The front and rear bumpers are rugged, enhancing its SUV appeal.
From the side, the Nexo gets a flat roofline that sharply slopes at the C-pillar, flush door handles, large alloy wheels, and triangular rear-quarter glass. The block-pattern LED tail lamps at the rear resemble those on the concept model. Hyundai has used a three-coat painting technique, allowing the body color to shift depending on light conditions.
2025 Hyundai Nexo: Interior and Features
The new Nexo’s cabin follows a premium and high-tech approach, taking inspiration from Hyundai’s Santa Fe and Palisade models. The dashboard features a twin 12.3-inch display setup for infotainment and instrumentation, along with a 12-inch head-up display (HUD). The steering column-mounted gear selector, seen in the Creta EV, keeps the center console clutter-free.
Key features include:
-
14-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system
-
Dual wireless charging pads
-
Ventilated front seats with leg rests
-
Ambient lighting
-
Digital IRVM
-
Dash cams & fingerprint authentication
-
Rearview camera displays on dashboard screens
The twin-deck center console is connected to the dashboard, optimizing cabin space. Hyundai has also added a slim pill-shaped climate control screen, similar to the one seen in new Hyundai and Kia models.
2025 Hyundai Nexo: Powertrain and Hydrogen Fuel-Cell System
Hyundai has significantly improved the fuel-cell powertrain on the 2025 Nexo. It now features a 145 bhp hydrogen fuel-cell stack, continuously recharging a 2.64kWh battery pack that powers a 198 bhp electric motor.
Performance-wise, the 0-100 km/h sprint now takes just 7.8 seconds, a major improvement over the previous model. The hydrogen fuel tank has been enlarged to 6.69 kg (previously 6.33 kg), offering a maximum range of 700 kms on a full refill. Like its predecessor, the Nexo takes just 5 minutes to refuel, making it one of the fastest refueling alternatives to EVs.
2025 Hyundai Nexo: Expected Launch and Market Outlook
While Hyundai has not announced an official launch date, the new Nexo is expected to go on sale in international markets soon. As hydrogen refueling infrastructure remains limited, it is unlikely to launch in India anytime soon.
With its futuristic design, improved power, and extended range, the 2025 Hyundai Nexo reinforces Hyundai’s commitment to hydrogen-powered mobility.
