Maruti Suzuki and Tata Motors are in danger as a new SUV has launched which offers cost-effective fuel alternative to buyers!

Nissan India has officially introduced a CNG retrofitment kit for the Magnite SUV, priced at ₹74,999. This kit offers a cost-effective fuel alternative for buyers looking to switch to CNG, and the installation will be carried out at government-certified fitment centres through Nissan’s authorised dealership network.

Developed by Motozen, Covered by Warranty

The retrofit kit has been developed, tested, and supplied by third-party manufacturer Motozen. It meets country-specific regulatory standards and comes with a warranty of three years or up to one lakh kilometres. Motozen will handle all component-related warranty claims directly. The kit includes a single 12 kg CNG cylinder and ensures full compliance with safety and emission norms.

Saurabh Vatsa, Managing Director, Nissan Motor India, stated:

“The New Nissan Magnite has been a phenomenal product for us and has led the success story in India. With a view to meet the requirements of customers, Nissan Dealers will provide an alternate fuel option in the form of a government-approved CNG retrofitment kit which will be carried out at the authorised fitment centres for customers. We are confident that this move will enhance the popular compact SUV’s value proposition and practicality.”

Phased Availability in 7 States Initially

The CNG kit installation will be available in a phased rollout. In the first phase, the kit can be fitted in select states including Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Haryana, Kerala, and Karnataka. Nissan plans to expand this offering to additional regions in the second phase.

CNG Kit Limited to 1.0L NA Petrol MT Variants

The retrofit option is applicable only to variants of the Magnite powered by the 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with a five-speed manual transmission. Turbocharged variants and automatic versions are not eligible for this upgrade. Nissan has yet to confirm the official power figures for the CNG version, but as is typical with CNG conversions, a slight dip in performance is expected compared to petrol-only models. The expected fuel efficiency is around 24 km/kg in city driving and 30 km/kg on highways.

No Changes to Features or Design

The Magnite CNG retains its original exterior design and interior layout. It continues to offer features such as an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, automatic climate control, push-button start, and USB Type-C charging ports. The SUV does not offer an electric sunroof.

On the safety front, the Magnite is well-equipped with six airbags, ABS with EBD, Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control, Hill Start Assist, Hydraulic Brake Assist, ISOFIX mounts, high-speed alert, and a reinforced body structure. A Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is also included.

Price and Competition

The retrofit kit is available at an added cost of ₹74,999 across all eligible variants. The Magnite 1.0L NA petrol range starts at ₹6.14 lakh and goes up to ₹9.27 lakh (ex-showroom). Including the kit, the CNG versions effectively begin from ₹6.89 lakh. The Magnite CNG will compete directly with other entry-level CNG SUVs like the Tata Punch CNG and Hyundai Exter CNG.

The launch of the Nissan Magnite CNG follows a similar move by Renault, which introduced CNG retrofitment kits for the Kwid, Kiger, and Triber earlier in February 2025. With over 65 international markets and 55+ safety features, the Magnite continues to strengthen its appeal globally and domestically, now with a CNG option for more sustainable urban commuting.
