This electric MPV will have no competition in segment, but will share its powertrain with Hyundai’s Creta EV!
Kia is gearing up to introduce the Carens Clavis EV, an all-electric version of its newly launched premium MPV. This will be India’s first mass-market 7-seater electric MPV, giving it a strong first-mover advantage. The EV version of the Carens Clavis has been spotted testing multiple times, with the latest spy shots from Andhra Pradesh revealing some new details.
Exterior and Interior Highlights
Visually, the EV version of the Carens Clavis is expected to retain the Ice Cube MFR LED headlamps and Star Map LED DRLs with integrated turn signals as seen in the ICE version. However, the EV will feature an LED DRL connecting the headlights, which is missing in the ICE variant. New alloy wheel designs and EV-specific badging will help distinguish the electric version from its ICE counterpart.
Inside the cabin, most features will mirror the ICE model. Highlights include a large 26.62-inch dual-screen display setup, front ventilated seats, 4-way powered driver seat, wireless charging, BOSE 8-speaker premium audio system, and ambient lighting. The EV version might also come with Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) charging capabilities, which are typically offered in advanced electric vehicles.
Powertrain
Like the upcoming Creta EV, the charging port in the Carens Clavis EV is positioned at the front center. It is expected that the Clavis EV will share the same electric powertrain options as the Creta EV, which includes two battery packs: 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh. These offer a range of up to 390 km and 473 km respectively, based on MIDC testing standards. The electric motor will likely be mounted on the front axle, producing 134 bhp with the standard range and 169 bhp with the long-range variant.
A new radar module for the ADAS system has been spotted on the front center of the vehicle, unlike the ICE version where it is positioned to the side. This new placement may enhance the performance of features like adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and forward collision warning by offering better sensor alignment and a wider field of view.
The Clavis EV will come equipped with Level 2 ADAS, featuring 20 autonomous functions. These include smart cruise control with stop and go, forward collision avoidance assist, lane departure warning, driver attention alert, and rear cross traffic alert with collision avoidance.
Safety and Features on Offer
In terms of safety, the Kia Carens Clavis EV is expected to offer a comprehensive package including six airbags, electronic stability control, hill start assist, vehicle stability management, and all-wheel disc brakes. Other features will include a 360-degree camera with blind view monitor, tyre pressure monitoring system, front and rear parking sensors, and a dual-camera dash cam.
Kia Carens Clavis EV Expected Launch Timeline
With testing now in advanced stages, the Kia Carens Clavis EV is expected to debut in India soon. The MPV will be available in two variants and could be priced starting from around Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, it will cater to families looking for a spacious, feature-rich, and eco-friendly mobility solution in the electric MPV segment.
