A New Mahindra SUV has been spied in the wilds with flush door handles raising questions if this is a Tata Sierra rival or not!
Mahindra is preparing to launch the next generation of its rugged workhorse, the Bolero. One of the brand’s most iconic SUVs, the Bolero has long been a favourite in rural and semi-urban markets. The new model aims to retain its tough character while adding premium features and modern styling.
Mahindra Bolero Spied: What’s New?
The upcoming generation of the Mahindra Bolero has been spotted on test, and while much of the SUV is covered in camouflage, the signature boxy styling has been retained. The overall design appears more muscular and upright, hinting at a bold road presence. Despite the wrap, certain elements stand out — round LED headlamps up front, vertically stacked tail-lamps at the back, and a flat rear tailgate that may carry a spare wheel.
The new Bolero also seems to feature larger alloy wheels and sharper creases on the fenders and doors, giving it a tougher, more contemporary SUV look. The prototype seen in the spy shots had an ‘F4’ marking on the rear windshield, suggesting it’s still in early development stages. A premium touch is expected with the inclusion of flush door handles. The model is likely to rival the upcoming Tata Sierra, and features like LED lighting, a panoramic sunroof, and ADAS tech may be part of the package.
Built on Mahindra’s All-New SUV Platform
The upcoming Bolero is expected to debut Mahindra’s new NFA platform — a next-gen flexible architecture designed to support multiple powertrains, including ICE, hybrid, and EV setups. This new monocoque platform will allow Mahindra to streamline SUV production for both Indian and global markets.
The new NFA-based SUVs will be manufactured at Mahindra’s advanced facility in Chakan, which has an initial production capacity of 1.2 lakh units. The platform is scheduled to be officially revealed in concept form on 15th August 2025, with the Bolero and Bolero EV likely to be the first models to use it.
Multiple Powertrain Options Expected
While the company hasn’t revealed official specs yet, the new-gen Bolero is expected to come with the same 1.5 L diesel engines but with increased outputs. Mahindra could also introduce a petrol variant at a later date. A fully electric version of the Bolero is also under development, aimed at buyers looking for a rugged EV SUV.
Final Thoughts
The next-gen Bolero is shaping up to be a complete transformation of the iconic SUV. With a strong blend of classic design and future-ready features, it’s likely to appeal to both rural and urban customers. Mahindra seems focused on keeping the Bolero relevant in the evolving SUV market while staying true to its legacy.
