Maruti Suzuki Dzire Scores 5-Star Safety Rating at Bharat NCAP making it the safest compact sedan of India!

Maruti Suzuki has achieved a significant milestone with the Dzire sedan securing a full 5-star safety rating under the Bharat NCAP crash test protocol. This result reinforces the brand’s commitment to enhancing safety in its mainstream product lineup. The rating reflects strong performances in both adult and child occupant protection assessments.

Adult Occupant Protection

The Dzire scored 29.46 out of 32.00 points for adult occupant protection. In the frontal offset deformable barrier test, it achieved 14.17 out of 16.00 points, while in the side movable deformable barrier test, the score stood at 15.29 out of 16.00 points. These scores indicate well-engineered crash structures and effective restraint systems.

Crash test illustrations show that head and neck protection for both driver and passenger is rated as good. Chest protection is adequate for the passenger, though marginal for the driver. Thigh and knee protection is mostly good, with only one knee area marked as adequate. In the side impact test, protection levels are good across all critical areas, and the vehicle passed the side pole impact test as well, confirming its robust structural integrity during lateral collisions.

Child Occupant Protection

The Dzire also scored impressively in the child occupant protection category with 41.57 out of 49.00 points. This includes a dynamic score of 23.57 out of 24.00, a perfect 12.00 out of 12.00 in the CRS installation assessment, and 6.00 out of 13.00 in vehicle-level checks related to child safety features and compatibility.

Two child dummies were used for testing. An 18-month-old child with ISOFIX and support leg in a rearward-facing position. A 3-year-old child was placed also rearward-facing. Both restraint systems offered excellent protection in frontal and side impacts, with the test scores reflecting near-perfect results.

However, ISOFIX and i-Size anchorages are only available on the second-row outboard seats. The front passenger seat and second-row center position do not support ISOFIX or i-Size. Integrated child restraint systems are also not offered in the Dzire.

Despite these limitations in seating flexibility, the Dzire passed all relevant CRS installation assessments for the seats it does support, making it a safe option for families traveling with young children.

Safety Equipment of the Tested Model

The Bharat NCAP, like Global NCAP, is a voluntary safety evaluation program. The tested model of the Maruti Suzuki Dzire was the LXI 1.2L ISS 5MT (Gasoline) variant. It came equipped with key passive safety features such as frontal airbags, side chest airbags, side head curtain airbags, as well as seatbelt pretensioners, load limiters, and ISOFIX child seat mounts for added protection. In terms of active safety and driver-assist technologies, the Dzire included Electronic Stability Control (ESC), pedestrian protection measures, and seat belt reminders for enhanced occupant safety.

Importantly, this 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating is not limited to the base LXI variant alone. It is also applicable to other variants within the Dzire lineup, including the Manual and Automatic variants and the Tour variants. This broad coverage makes the Dzire one of the few sedans in its segment to offer consistent crash safety performance across multiple trims, reinforcing Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to prioritizing occupant protection across the range.

Final Thoughts

With the Maruti Suzuki Dzire scoring a full 5-star rating under Bharat NCAP, it sets a new benchmark for safety in the compact sedan category. Strong performance in both adult and child occupant protection tests, combined with the inclusion of critical safety features and advanced safety assist technologies, showcases the brand’s evolving focus on structural safety and occupant wellbeing.

The fact that this fety rating extends across multiple variants—including both manual and AMT options—makes the Dzire not just a practical and fuel-efficient choice, but now also a safer one for Indian families. This achievement positions the Dzire as a well-rounded package in its segment, offering peace of mind without compromising on everyday usability or affordability.
